Not the smoothest engine over 6k
As much as I like my FRS, the engine is a little rough 6k-7.5k. That's where you need to keep it for the horsepower but I almost feel like I am tearing up the engine? Is it balanced well enough to handle extended 6k+ driving?
Is this just me getting used to a boxer after driving inline motors (BMW, Honda, Toyota) for years. |
autocross and drifting.. the RPMs are pretty much always around 6k

Mine doesn't sound rough past 6k. It does have a mechanical sound, but I love the sound of it. How many miles do you have?

LOL are you serious? Honda has made many engine models that rev up to 8,000 or even 9,000 rpm. BMW makes many engines that rev up to 8,000, the M3 engines for example have had 8,000rpm redlines. And Toyota, the same thing - many high revving engines. |

The motor is pretty stout, IMO. Just use a really high quality motor oil (Eneos) and make sure the level is checked regularly. I take mine up to 7k+ several times a week. No ill effects.

FYI spoon b16s were known to get up to 11k.
6k I a relatively low red line compared to any "sporty" Japanese car from the 90s. |
I loved my F20C. I misses it.

My wife's '00 Si (B16A2 I think it was) w/GReddy turbo kit regularly saw 8000-8200.
I think the FA20 feels and sounds great up there at 6.5-7.4k. I love it up there. :) |

I revved my k20z3 in my old Si to 8600rpm and I will admit that it felt a lot better than the boxer ever does when doing so.
