Ford and Chevy

You know what would be funny is if in a year's time Ford and Chevy announces they will have a joint venture in the 200HP RWD coupe market.

That would be funny...but the car would be terrible and the FRS will annihilate it in every aspect.

I doubt Ford would lower themselves to that level.

Good engineers are good engineers, when they give something their best effort it usually doesn't disappoint in performance. With the way the domestic brands have been going about business lately I doubt a lightweight FR RWD coupe from them would be "terrible", if anything it might handle just as well as an FRS. The only difference being I'd expect an American variant to have more power.

:word:

Not to mention they wouldn't have a market niche for it when something like this runs with the same price tag as their V6 Camaro's and Mustangs.

But the OP is right about a joint venture between Ford & Chevy being hilarious in general. A lot of die hard fans would :mad0260:

So true!! They don't want to get involved with that bailout scum, plasticy POS's that fall apart.

But Isuzu made them a pretty nice diesel engine that they market the crap out of...Duramax.

The V6 Mustand and Camaro would be in-house competition for such a car anyway...plus Chevy has that 130R Camaro met a 1-series little bastard child thingy.

Oh wait, that didn't happen at all.

Well that did kinda happen but ford already has a car that is faster in almost any circumstance, gets better gas mileage, has a decent aftermarket and is cheaper when compared to the frs so I get the point

well im pretty sure ford makes that precious little fun to drive car u guys call the miata or at least provide the 2.0l four in the newer miatas right? or im i wrong, cause every other car mazda has right now except the rx-8 is has a ford engine. so i woulnt say ford is so bad at making cars. with that said i hate fords the taurus, escorts, focus, etc hate theyre cars lol

I am pretty sure the "Duratec" motors are rebadged MZR Motors, not the other way around...Just like the "Zetec" motors were rebadged Mazda B motors. I think it is Ford who would be dead without it's partnership with Mazda, and not the other way around...

Not only this but they have said that the next generation Mustang is meant to be smaller and lighter while hopefully improving power, economy and overall performance. Additionally it will have a fresh, modern (i.e not retro) appearance/styling direction.

The idea is to improve the appeal of the mustang overseas, where unlike it's US success the car has sold terribly for as long as it has existed.

Assuming a 2014 - 2016 appearance I'd say that could be an interesting car, and depending on the AS1's success may bower a few ideas from Toyobaru...

I'm pretty sure that did happen.

MX-5 was superior in every measurable way. Sky looked very nice tho.

Didnt it?

Pontiac was dying and the Solstice didnt save it.
Saturn was on the rebound with its rebadged Opels but no one cared. And it had the Sky.

Aside from those, the main problems about the cars as far as i can tell were:

1.) too damn small for some people
2.) There was absolutely no trunk space or storage space even with the top up....
3.) They were pretty porky for what they were supposed to be.

Chopped up platform from a corvette, and a pickup truck's transmission. Many parts from the parts bin.

If GM was to make a small RWD coupe against the FR-S it would not be a N/A 2.0 liter. It would more than likely be a RWD version of the last Cobalt SS Turbo. And that car alone is too much on a race track for the FR-S/BRZ.
