who here drives an AT and track it?
I think most people who track their cars drives a manual. I'm wondering is there anyone who drives AT and also track it? How does the 86 AT handle on a track?

I have a auto and I'm doing a auto x in May. Should be just as fun with the paddle shifters as a manual. I would also like to here feedback of anyone else tracking an auto.
|
I've done SOW twice and love it.. Gear ratio is the same as the manual except 5&6th and I never seen those on the track.. I didn't have to worry about a clutch or upsetting the chassis with a clutch.. It was really smooth shifting through the corner.. I was 5 sec off randy pobst times first time ever at the track in a car.. So I don't think it's holding anyone back..

I have been autocrossing mine since December but I haven't been able to make any track days. I'm running the same times as everyone else in manuals and other drivers and I believe that it will turn the same lap times around a track.
Everyone loves the rev-matching and quick shifts. The AT is a great transmission that has handled over 400hp so far with no issues. (check out the Forced Induction section and you'll find more info) Scott |
I have done both numerous times in my AT, no issues. A whole season of Autocross and Club Racing. I keep waiting for the ATF temp indicator to light up but it hasn't. The rev matching and shifts are great. The only thing it suffers from is that it has no launch ability, which is mute in most cases other than drag racing. It is just as competitive as the manual in my opinion. Certainly hasn't held me back from winning anything.

I'll update once I start next month. I've never autocrossed before but I can't wait to start. I'll be doing a driver's school first as well.

How about Moto at Laguna Seca with his AT FRS?

I Autocross mine. Have been since 600 miles. That was almost a year ago. Now running it with a tune which helps a lot.

I've been AutoX'ing since July last year. I've been beat by plenty of drivers with manuals, and I'm now beating those with manuals as well. Nice thing is with an auto and manual mode/paddle shifters I don't miss any shifts (except when I try to shift into a gear that I shouldn't be in). :burnrubber: |
so do you guys turn EVERYTHING off? (traction + VSC) or just put in manual mode and tap the paddles when tracking the AT? I'm interested in taking my car to the track but donno what the best setting is to make the car more competitive.

I track my AT.
It's been great. No mishifts. No incorrect heel-toe rev match. No mid-corner shifting. It's a fantastic transmission. I do wish it had a shorter final drive. |
Yep. Everything off and manual mode.
