New found RESPECT for MT drivers.
So tonight I went and had my first lesson
on how to drive MT.. the car used was a 2005 Honda Civic(value package).. The car had NO tachometer and my instructor was like its better this way.. I was like okay ... I guess the FORCE is strong with this one. I was going fine in the parking lot.. but once I left I saw car after car heck I even stall a few times due to panic trying to Launch fast.. Long story short ... getting the feel of the clutch and when to lift off and apply more gas was quite daunting since I drive a AUTOBOX((DSG))... Someday with enough lessons I will only need to listen to the car telling me when to shift. :burnrubber: |
Welcome to the MT world. No Tach is kinda hard (IMO). I taught few of my friends how to drive MT & after first lesson, first thing they say is "you guys do thing every day? Don't you get tired?" lol

I know just enough to not stall. I still don't have a smooth drive since my car is auto, I only drive manual if I have to borrow a car which is not often. Still get that nervous feeling on steep inclines

Agreed, I tried once on a really old Jetta with broken power steering and a terrible clutch. It was really sensitive on the balance between the gas and clutch, so frustrating! Maybe if I get a manual FR-S it will be easier, but still.

Welcome. Once you master it, you will never go back and will wonder why you drove AT all those years.

I think the best way learn MT is to get a car with at least 500HP and a ridiculously tough Stage 3 Carbon Full-Body-Workout Clutch. Once they learn how to not stall that off the line, then you won't stall anything!

I can FEEL the pressure of the people behind me as I slowly dis-engage the clutch and lift off again((how I stalled a couple times)). :word: |
I mainly learned (before I had my license or permits) in a 2003 Mustang GT hehe V8, then practiced with a Ford Ranger pickup. Was way harder being a 4cylinder and 3rd grinding all the time. Oh yeah still before my license or permits. Haven't touched these cars in about a year or so.
