unplugging side marker lights
 

Maybe a retarded question, but what are the side marker lights for? Just for more visibility with the parking lights on?

With our cars, to have the DRL's and the boomerang light on, we need to drive with the parking light switch (2 clicks up). This turns on the side marker yellow lights which in my opinion, is ugly.

I unplugged the cable that enables the side marker lights to turn on, is this highly illegal? Now I can have my boomerang and DRL light on without the side marker light. Just wondering if anyone else did the same thing.

I did the same to mine and painted my side markers matte black.

US requires an amber front and red rear side reflector, i guess so from the side you are visible and can even tell direction of travel. I put the clear side markers on the front (which is no longer a reflector, just an orange light at night) and i replaced the tails with colin red lens lights (no side red reflector, though the tails come with a glue on reflector lol) its one of those things, if a cop notices it missing, and wants to pull you over, it gives him a reason. Though ive never been pulled over for side markers ever in any of my cars. Choice is yours, imho theres many worse things people do to their cars from a "safety" standpoint that goes unnoticed.
