This might just be mines but...

Does anyone else feel an excessive shaking/vibrating through the shift knob? It seems to always be doing that no matter if i am at idle or driving, it is always vibrating haha

I drive a FR-S

Just not sure if this is normal

Thanks,
Tim

MightyMeeple 03-26-2013 03:36 PM

It's normal!

CrazyWookiee 03-26-2013 03:38 PM

Funny, I always smile because of how little it vibrates...

Boxer = smooth sailing, but it's all relative.

BTW it vibrates because it is directly attached to the engine, which has thousands of explosions occurring every second. You may not feel it on other cars because they were developed with comfort in mind (don't let the soccer mom worry about the vibrations from the 300 hp V6 under there!) but sports cars generally don't concern themselves with such trivial things.

:burnrubber:

tl;dr if something was vibrating in a bad way you'd hear it or feel it somewhere other than the gear shift lever.

Mine has minimal vibration. Perhaps the heavier than stock shifter knob keeps it more stationary.

Thanks everyone!

Would a shifter bushing help that at all? I got one of the 10 free ones from Kart Boy but won't be able to install for awhile because I'm out of town. Supposedly it makes a huge difference in the feel of the shifts.

I'd say it definitely has a lot more vibration than my old Civic Si... but I assumed it had to do with the RWD transmission.

RowTarEEE 03-26-2013 05:43 PM

It's normal. I'd probably be shaking/vibrating too if I was driving with mines in the car

My RSX is 99% shake free. They did alot of work since the early 90's models. The solution to the shaking twins is to not hold it while you drive. :w00t:
