Question about Dr.Colorchip
 

Where can i get Dr.Colorchip in the GTA?
And does the kit comes with clear coat? If no clear coat, where do i get some?

You have to buy it online direct. Just google it.

No clear coat included. It is intended to be a shortcut for touching up road rash that you will eventually get on the hood/ front bumper. The idea is to get a subtle blend on many small chips vs perfection which requires a repainting.

won't it protect the Dr.colochip paint better if a clear coat is applied to the chipped area? or is it not necessary to have clear coat for Dr.colorchip?

I got it for my car and works AWESOME. It comes with a "clear coat" that you apply over the painted area. Go to their page and the video explains it all. Very easy and quick too.

I don't have any chip yet. i just like to have it ready the moment i discover a chip. ok i'm gonna order it online... that stuff is a bit pricy.

Unfortunately no, but I loose it now and have to spend a good amount of time looking. There is a little bit of dent because it was so big but there is no way to tell the paint apart.

If you're so anal about your paint, just get a full front-end clear bra.

Have you tried dr color chip on scratches or scrapes (versus "chips")?

Yes, same great result.

Dr colorchip is not a perfect paint repair method. It is simply a way to fill in chips, especially if you have many of them as you likely will with Subaru hoods and bumpers, in a quick easy way. You glob the paint on all the chips at once, smear the globs so they don't stand up above the paint, wait a few minutes then wash off all the excess. Usually if you look closely the chipped areas will have thinner paint than surrounding areas but no globs or beads. The chipped area paint will sit lower rather than higher than the surrounding area.

Not aware of a clear coat though it might be harder to get the wipe.away stuff to stay on the chipped area as the paint is designed to not wipe off the exposed metal of the chipped spots.

You replace the colour to the chipped spots but can't really level it out.

VW sells a paint pen and a clearcoat pen, I never use the clearcoat as it's really hard to use.

My recommendation is to buy Duplicolor primer fill pen from Crappy Tire, and the Duplicolor paint pen from the Subaru dealer.

I'm lazy I don't even use the primer pen but you should if you want the fill to be leveled.

The hood is aluminum. My well used Cannondale aluminum bike frame is 12 years old and there's no rust on the battle damage areas.

Japanese steel will usually see surface rust fast if you don't fix the chips. German steel panels if you keep washing the car there will be no rust for many years even if you don't fix the chips.

I don't think it has to do with the country or origin but whether that particular model from that particular manufacturer uses galvanized panels. Typically that would be on the hood and possibly roof and trunk lid.

Not typically on the fenders and doors.
