Display current gear without clutch engaged?

I love being able to see what gear I'm in, but is there any workaround so it displays what gear it is as soon as that gear is engaged, whether or not the clutch is in? I have muscle memory habit of pulling it out of gear, wiggling in N and re-engaging, especially at stop lights. But it'd be nice just to look and see "1" as I'm waiting to take off. It can show R without clutch engagement, so it's gotta be possible.

I'd like to see this too.. seems strange why they didn't set it up that way from the factory.. it's helpful to see what gear you're in, regardless of clutch engagement.

I would like to also! But I don't think it's possible.
I don't know for sure but, since it just displays the gear you're on when the clutch is engaged, I guess that it has to do with the ECU. I mean, I think that there are no sensors on the gearbox which detect the position of the stick. It calculates the gear based on the speed and the engine revolutions. The rear is different, because it must have a sensor to switch on the rear light.
So, I'm afraid that there's no easy workaround for that... :/

It has to have at least one physical sensor because it tells you when you're in reverse, even if you have the clutch pressed all the way in.

Yes, the one used to turn on the tail light. And they take advantage of this necessary sensor to display the R. But the other gears mustn't have any sensor.

That's a real shame if that's true. Has anyone actually taken it apart and knows there's no physical sensor for the other gears? Calculating it like that just sounds absurd and silly; an unnecessarily complex method compared to a simple sensor telling you what gear is selected. I know other cars can display gears in manual, the 370Z for example:

It might seem more complex, but it's easier and cheaper, because instead of building 6 sensors, they just write a small program for the ECU.
It's a bit like cheating :)

The reason the 370z has that feature is due to the auto blip it has when you shift to a lower gear, so it needs to know what gear you will be in before you left the clutch.

But dont the Visconti tune have the auto blip feature as well for our cars? So that means somewhere in our ECU, there's gotta be a secret passage for quick gear indicator somewhere.

No idea but maybe @Visconti or @Rich@ViscontiTuning can lend a hand here.

Mine does not show what gear I'm in... Anyone know how to turn that feature on?

It's not possible. The ECU uses engine speed and wheel speed to determine what gear is engaged. It can't do that with the engine disconnected from the drive train.
