BRZ-Porsche 911 Dimensional Comparison

1 Attachment(s)
For whoever is (like me) still having trouble visualizing a BRZ on the street...

Here's a BRZ overlaid by a 2011 Porsche 911 Coupe (the body style you'd most expect to find on today's streets.). To me, the two body shells are surprisingly similar. Visually, I now think of the BRZ as a snubbed-tail, raised-nose 911 with a slightly longer wheelbase carrying a shorter body.

Very appealing, indeed. Looking forward to seeing a real one.

thanks very cool

Longhorn248 01-09-2012 01:23 PM

Awesome overlay, I really like how small this car is going to be, the low center of gravity is sure to have a great feel around corners.

tranzformer 01-09-2012 01:27 PM

Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Repyt 01-09-2012 01:28 PM

This is great stuff, you have no idea how long I've been trying to picture this thing out on the street!

Ryephile 01-09-2012 02:28 PM

Great overlay, thanks for sharing!

ryude 01-09-2012 02:34 PM

Thanks, this gives me a much clearer idea of what to expect.

NumbersGuy 01-09-2012 02:51 PM

This is starting to scare me now, I have sat in one of those and did not have enough legroom! CRAP. I believe the Porsche has 41.6in :(

iff2mastamatt 01-09-2012 03:10 PM

The BRZ is 10.1" shorter? Seems like the BRZ would be even smaller when compared to the Porsche.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. As much as I love this car already, as a member of the 6 footer club, I don't think it is going to work out for me.

brzmaybe 01-09-2012 03:22 PM

Leg room, Leg room?

Don't give up yet. The BRZ is shorter overall but its wheel base is longer by about 4.7 inches. I think that means there may be a bit more leg room in the BRZ if you push the front seats back.

I was wondering the same, the extra 4" should help legroom.

This article says that 6 footers should fit easily

The BRZ's small, low footprint is deceiving because the cabin easily accommodates 6-foot-plus adults. Very long front-seat travel helps in this regard, and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes. Granted, with the driver's seat all the way back rear-seat legroom is nonexistent, but the backseat is marginally useful to start. With the rear seats folded, Subaru claims there's enough cargo space to carry four extra wheels and a jack for a day at the track; I suspect those rear seats will stay folded more often than not.

Like others have said, the wheelbase in the BRZ is longer, so legroom should be acceptable. Also, there haven't been any complaints from the media regarding leg-room [at least for the front passengers]. Historically, given the same vehicular dimensions, the Germans will always find a way to make the cabin smaller than the rest of the world.

NumbersGuy 01-09-2012 04:05 PM

Thanks guys, I pray you all right! Thanks for throwing some logic and hope out there! :)

Giccin 01-09-2012 04:25 PM

Awesome overlay. Great job!

MRZ415 01-09-2012 05:40 PM

So much win in this overlay.

NorCalRider 01-09-2012 05:51 PM

Kinda cool to see this. Puts the car in a better purspective. Thanks.

ahausheer 01-09-2012 05:59 PM

Sweet, nice work, car still looks big to me in most pics, this helps a-lot.

also to mention in regards to the length, the 911's engine sits behind the rear axles and is a 6-cylinder.

Most of the pics have been with Japanese people standing next to the car. On average they're a bit shorter than Americans.

EJ20 01-09-2012 07:38 PM

can't wait till I get my own BRZ :D

Guff 01-09-2012 07:55 PM

Very Nice!

For all of us who are 6' or taller, I give you this article:

"The BRZ's small, low footprint is deceiving because the cabin easily accommodates 6-foot-plus adults. Very long front-seat travel helps in this regard, and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes."

Good to know, especially for the taller folks lol.

What's your point? The 911 has always had lengthy rear overhang as a result of its engine placement. Nothing's stopping Porsche from making the car shorter overall via wheelbase and front overhang. Instead, with the 991 chassis, they chose to make the car even longer with a 4" bump to wheelbase.

BeRZercar 01-10-2012 02:51 PM

This is comforting... I haven't sat in the current 911 but I fit in the previous version with some adjusting.

If I don't fit I'm going to be terribly dissapointed.

no_name 01-10-2012 02:57 PM

Don't forget 500lb lighter!

merlin2111 01-10-2012 03:31 PM

This is a great visual. I dont know how difficult this is but could you possibly do this for an NA Miata? 1990-1994? This is what I currently drive. If it is a pain no biggie.

Side note: I fit great in the 94 Miata. It is amazing how much room you add when you take away all safety features!

Homemade WRX 01-10-2012 03:53 PM

not of a 90-94 Miata but you get the idea. Obviously from MotoIQ

merlin2111 01-10-2012 03:55 PM

Thanks so it looks like my car is a little smaller all around. I love small cars but if I don't fit in this then I will be forced to go with the new 2.0t gen coupe. I hope I dont have to do that.

tripjammer 01-10-2012 04:18 PM

If you can fit in a 370Z you will probably be able to fit good in a BRZ.

The front bucket seats are relatively wide so the side bolsters don't hold you too tightly, and the dashboard sits like a ledge in front of you
doh, sounds like they might of widened them for us fat Americans, hopefully not too much

Craikeybaby 01-11-2012 08:15 AM

I've seen both GT86 and 911 generation 911 in the metal and the 911 looks massive compared to the GT86 (and the 997 generation 911 for that matter).

Looking at the diagram above I'm not sure its to scale, as the wheels on the BRZ will be 17" and the difference in length is supposed to be 10", it doesn't quite look right to me.

[edit]Just noticed the graphic is a 997 rather than a 991, doh.[/edit]
