CO to TX, holy snowstorm batman!
Road tripping from CO to Texas. I didn't get by far today due to the weather. (Pretty awful pucker factor on the roads). Can anyone from Colorado comment on the safest routing? I dont mind driving further. My options seem to be
I70 into Kansas and down I35 I70 to 287 I25 through NM I25 seems the most direct but locals have warned about Monument pass and Raton pass. (I'm planning to set off tomorrow morning so as to avoid all the craziness tonight, assuming conditions improve) |
I drove to Amarillo tx but it was during summer but if I remember right, its a fairly straight course on i25. Just be careful in the frs, especially if you are on stock tires. Those are as good as slicks in the snow

Thanks, so I ended up going I-25 but didn't go through New Mexico due to the roads being closed. I was able to cut east and down through the pan-handle of oklahoma. Probably a little out of the way but it was manageable.
This was my first RWD on snow experience and holy crap it was pretty scary at times. Those stock tires were already pretty non-grippy on dry, it was like driving on ice blocks, you could feel the back-end stepping out just going straight. I'm taking some time to write up a trip report and will post here later. |
glad you had a safe trip.

Thanks. In case anyone is interested, here's a write-up on my trip back home: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32090
