Perrin or Berk catted front pipe

Which would you choose and why?

Both are 2.5" diameter stainless steel with 200 cell cat.

Only difference is the price.

I'm planning on getting Perrin Resonated CBE with it.

The perrin is 304ss, not sure about the berk though. I think berk uses tig welds which are nicer than the perrin welds. With the price difference I think I'd be leaning towards the berk.

I picked up the Berk catted front pipe. Sounds mean on start up and adds a nice growl with the stock cat back.

D1cker 03-26-2013 03:28 PM

I think the Berk pipe is the much better value.

Can anyone clarify on going catless and the rumor of people losing torque? I would prefer to remove that cat if I can.

shu5892001 03-26-2013 03:51 PM

I hear a lot of people say you won't gain much going from high-flow cat to catless

FastLane1000 03-26-2013 04:03 PM

Why not Motiv? I went with their overpipe and HFC front pipe. I know I didn't lose anything. I installed them both together but it was a noticeable improvement.

Not sure if there is much power difference between high flow cat and catless. I want to retain a cat in the front pipe if I remove the primary cat in the header.

The Motiv exhaust is a nice piece, but can't justify dropping that much money for overpipe and front pipe. With the money saved, I'd rather have it go towards fluids, brakes, and tires. Haven't heard the Motiv exhaust, but I'd be willing to bet money that between the Berk, Perrin, Motiv, Nameless, or Works catted front pipe paired with the same catback, the exhaust tone would sound the same or very similar.

Hmm. I must have gotten a deal then. Even with a ceramic coated overpipe i think my pricing was less than Perrin's. You might check the classifieds if you haven't already. If your buying the Perrin catback I'd just keep it all the same brand.

I'm waiting for the Berk Cat Back to be released.

The Berk stuff seems to be a good deal. I got the nameless downpipe because I was already ordering the axleback and got a discount on the downpipe and free shipping. The Berk downpipe was probably still cheaper than what I paid.

Does anyone know what brand of cats are used for the Berk front pipe?

I know that their catted pipes for the S2k use Magnaflow......but I can't find anywhere if the same is used for their FR-S catted pipes?

Corner3garage 09-19-2013 01:20 PM

Berk is much higher quality. They use magnaflow cats as well which are good.

The Berk front pipe is very nicely tig welded!

Not sure what Perrin uses.

PERRIN_Mladen 09-19-2013 03:36 PM

Our frontpipe is 304SS, fully TIG welded, and uses Magnaflow cats as well.

It also has a nice grained finish.

If I were to answer the OP several months ago, I would have said Perrin. Reason? I got the Perrin O/P, F/P, and resonated exhaust combo and it sounds superb!

Thanks....that's good to know. Initially I thought maybe Berk use lower quality cats hence why they're cheaper than other catted front pipes. Also good to know they're made in USA as well. Win!!

i couldnt agree more. perfect sound, nice deep tone.

wparsons 09-22-2013 05:34 PM

I can't speak for anything but Perrin, but their parts fit perfectly without any fuss. I ran the 2.5" catted front pipe with stock everything else for a few weeks, and installed the 2.5" resonated cat back last weekend. Other than shearing off the bolt in one of the v-band clamps (not Perrin's fault at all, I was using an air ratchet and not paying attention to how tight it was) the install was easier than described.

Why did you stop selling the catted front pipe? I would buy one.
