Feeler: FR-S with severe hail damage
1 Attachment(s)
I went and looked at a FR-S today that was in a hail storm with hail up to 4" in diamater. It busted both front and rear windows out plus has major dents on it.
I am thinking the the dents could be bondoed and the car then wrapped to make a cheap track car that would not look to bad......... What would be a good starting price to offer for the car? |
whats the mileage on the car and why isn't your ins. covering this?

It has about 5,000 miles. It is not my car, I am looking at it to purchase in the as-is condition. I am thinking of offering $10,000.00. |
damn that must've been one hell of a storm. Is it just the roof, trunk and hood that got dented up or did the sides take a hit too? I'm assuming the seller doesn't have proper insurance to get it fixed for just a deductible? You should check with your insurance too... maybe you can get it cheap and then just have them cover the repairs. that would make for an awesome deal

You'd be surprised how reasonably a paintless dent removal guy could take care of this. The ones that are good can literally clean up every panel on this thing (note: some small holes would need to be drilled on the back sides of panels) and they'd charge you a flat rate.
Also, I think $10k may be a tad low, but not unfair. Definitely feasible and a good offer. Best of luck! |
If you could get it for $10k that would be a steal!! $5k or less would have that car looking perfect again.

i didn't mean rip them off. i meant checking with them. like what's the deal if i buy this car and have so and so coverage. can i pay the deductible and get it fixed. never know. some insurance agents will actually tell you to just buy it and then file the claim. when i used to be listed on my parents policy they would always tell us all kinds of holes in the system to save more money

between 12 and 14 is a fair offer...would cost $7k to fix that damage
|
hmmm if it's just the roof, hood and trunk, you could get the Seibon parts for a couple thousand dollars and just replace everything
|
The hail was the size of softballs. Every panel has major damage, hood, roof, trunk, fenders and quarter panels. The hail even broke the tail lights and outside mirrors. I am no body man but did have to have a new quarter panel and bumper cover installed in another car and it was expensive. I think it is to severe for a paintless dent removal repair since some the paint was chipped. I doubt $12,000.00-14,000.00 would cover the repair bill if it were taken to a quality shop. I would guess it would be totaled and issued a salvage title which will void the factory warranty, another negative.

It's insurance fraud. You're buying a car damaged and then submitting a claim for them to repair it. Your coverage for insurance starts the day you insure it for losses that happen from that point forward, not items that occurred before you purchased it. If an agent tells you to do that, he's just as crooked. The damage to the car looks extensive. To be repaired correctly the majority of the exterior panels would need to be replaced. Paintless dent repair is a great tool but there's only so much they can do. Of course if you're not worried about it on a track car, that would be perfect great :) Besides don't golf balls have tons of dimples for a reason? I don't think 10k is unfair given the damage though. Do they have an asking price for the car? Good luck! |

They are awaiting their insurance to appraise it.
