Useful. I think they tested the wrong Conti. Would've preferred the ExtremeContact summer instead.

If the Tirerack specs are accurate, the Italian made 225/40R18 Pirelli PZero is a freak of a tyre. At 9.4" tread width on the recommended 8" wide wheel, it puts more rubber on the road than the 235, 245, 255 and 275 PZero (all on wider wheels). The 265 PZero is an unremarkable 2 or 3mm wider (on a 9.5" wide wheel).

I'm not saying they did, but if you were going to pick a size to ensure a PZero win - this is it.

I'm not saying tread width is everything (because a wide crap tyre is still a crap tyre), but this makes for interesting reading:

Nice info, but I wish they would have thrown in a 225/40/17 for comparison.

TireRack seems to have the same P Zero available for purchase in the USA.

I am surprised that the Michelin did not do better, but I think it works better on heavier cars.

I like the car they picked for their test vehicle!

Edit: Looked more closely at the results. The P Zero did poorly in the dry slalom, only just beating the original equipment Michelin Primacy tires! What? Not much advantage here.

The Goodyear F1 A2's are impressive, especially for the money. TR currently has them for $110/ea after rebate. Very tempted to go with these for my next track/autocross tires, if I don't go with Z2 SS or Rivals.

Why didn't they test any sticky tires?

They explain on the first page. These tyres are all in the same category. If you were to look on tirerack.com, they all come under Max Performance Summer.

AU doesn't get the Extremecontact DW but I agree, an excellent tyre. I've run a lot of the top-end street tyres from Bridgestone, Yokohama and Kumho and the Continentals are easily better. (I order mine through Tirerack and have another set coming for the BRZ)

That test seems a little weird to me, as someone who has owned quite a few of these tires, the Pirelli P Zero are not very good. They're AWFUL for wet braking, and their road manners are bad. (noisy and rough)
