Help with Oil change at dealer

Good Morning, I took my FRS to the dealer and they chane the oil and place normal oil on it not Synthetic. I was looking in the book and I cant find where it specify that syntethic must be used.

Please If you know where is this located exactly let me know so I can go to the dealer and fight this issue, thanks.

It's not specified. But it is specified to use 0W/20 oil. And except for some specific (and expensive) racing oils, all 0W/20 oils are synthetic. Unless they used another viscosity or some off-the-wall brand, you should be all right.

Why do you think or how do you know what they used is NOT synthetic?

You will find this in the Subaru Quick Reference Guide.

They write:

Engine Oil
Use only the following oils:
• ILSAC GF-4 or GF-5, which can be identified with the ILSAC certification mark (Starburst mark).
• Or API classification SN or SM with the words “ENERGY CONSERVING”.
- Use 0W 20 synthetic, replacement interval 7,500 miles; no requirement at the first 3,000 miles.

Well I see the bill and it was $47 I went to parts ask the person there, toyota synthetic cost $3.50 he said no thats just normal toyota oil!!!

Is the right viscosity but not synthetic

Should I change it?

0W/20 is synthetic only. If that's what they put in you're o.k. If they didn't, they made a mistake and you would be justified in telling them they should correct their mistake and put in the proper lubricant.

Go with the manual in hand with the above page and tell them you either get a credit so you can change it to synthetic yourself, or they need to change it to synthetic per the owner manual.

Also, I too believe all 0w-20 is synthetic.

cool then thanks is 0W/20 is just that they charge me $3.50 per quart and I was like no way. Then I ask the caunter guy and he said thats not syntethic.

But is last time I go to that dealership for service they look and talk like they dont know nothing about the car. Like telling me the oil change is every 5000 miles. Whattt do they even recieve training in a new car when it show to the line up.

I call to the dealer they indeed put normal toyota 0w20 in my car. I hate them, I have to call at 10am to know if they are going to change to synthetic or else!

Are you NOT listening to us? No matter how stupid your dealer and counter personnel are, if they used 'normal 0W/20 Toyota oil' that IS SYNTHETIC OIL, period.

Now quit worrying and go enjoy your FR-S!!
