Dealerships Bidding for Your Business

I went to test drive a GSB BRZ limited MT last week...it was awesome! I can't drive a stick well enough yet to really evaluate the car, but luckily I had a friend with me who could, so I let him take over and push the revs up!

I love the car and I'm ready to buy one, but the problem now is finding one for the right price. After the test drive the salesman at my local place quoted me a generous price...of $32,000!!! He added a $3k markup to the MSRP for a so-called "market adjustment" and some additional "processing fees" on top of that. After including sales tax, tag and title I would have been well above $35k.

Needless to say, I passed on that deal. Since then I have been looking into ways to get the car for an actually reasonable price. I've heard of a method where a buyer will email/fax a large number of dealerships in their area to get price quotes on a car, pick the lowest, and then ping all of the others a second time to ask if they can beat the lowest. You could theoretically do this as many times as you want, although personally I think it'd be wise to stop after two rounds.

Has anyone had success buying a BRZ this way? If so, please share your experience.

This is a pretty common way of doing it and a lot of other companies do this too. I know for work we do that a lot when renting equipment we will get quotes then pick the lowest one and our favorite company will usually beat it by a good margin.

Buy from a Colorado dealer. Try Karen at Heuberger Subaru. I was able to get under invoice and shipping is "only" $550. Although that was a month ago. They have a large shipment coming in now too.

Are they crazy? Bumping up on the 2014 MY and asking above sticker is pure nonsense. The local Subaru dealer here in Shoreline, Wa (Carter Subaru) has a policy to not charge above sticker. Hope you find a dealer that has the same scruples.

I don't know about today but six months ago the Auto Trader was full of them at reasonable prices.

I got mine at MSRP by ordering and waiting 4 months.

Truecar.com or get on the Subaru VIP program. VIP guarantees 2% below invoice price. What state are you from? Must be someplace warm...

Buy from a dealer in Colorado. Here is a very useful thread -http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20652

You can also try carwoo.com. Dealers around you will submit their offers.

:word:

Still can't believe dealerships are stilling marking these up even after the car has been out for almost a year in the states. Greedy people.

The next time you do a test drive and come back to the dealer DO NOT look like a four year old kid who just opened a Christmas present and got the big red fire engine he always wanted. Just say,
"I don't know mister, I like the the red Toyota Scion FR-S a lot better AND it would cost a lot less than this over-priced, what do you call it, a BRX?".
