Are these safe?
I ordered a set of kmc rockstar 775 wheels
they are 17x7.5 blanks that had to get drilled because the regular ones were not instock. the stock wheels normally had two sets of holes in them 5x100 and 5x114 (?) so these got drilled with two sets too. but looking at them the walls seem extremely thin. I dont intend to track the car so its not gonna have extraordinary force on them but i do drive on the highway alot. so are these safe enough for everyday use? http://i45.tinypic.com/33w4g34.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/2ztbo2a.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/2nhmd05.jpg |
looks realll sketchy.

Wouldn't put them on my car, not really a fan of that wheel either but definitely not looking like swiss cheese.
|
I think its fine
|
Feel like they are way too close to the center. Could definitely see them breaking pretty quickly.
|
I'd avoid. Having a wheel fall off at highway speeds is not fun....ask me how I know....
|
when torqued down properly, the lugs shouldn't be putting a lot of stress on the sides. that being said, looks like shit. id send em back and tell them to quit smokin the crack..
|
I wouldn't do it.
Sure, it might be fine. But it looks like crap and it also might NOT be fine. |
I would play it safe and ask a bunch of unqualified anonymous people on the internet.
On one hand, if their wheels are usually drilled for both patterns, they probably all look like that (because of those 4 small holes). Because you requested both patterns on a blank, I kind of doubt you'll get your $ back but what do I know. On the other hand, if you feel less than safe - it's better to err on the side of caution. |
I figured this would be the first question: WHO drilled them? Wheel manufacturer or...........? :iono:
|
I didnt even notice at first the amount of material between the 5x100 holes and the center. There's nothing there either!
|
This really bums me out. I spent a while looking for a set of wheels I liked and there was a huge mess with PayPal and my bank and now this crap.

Mate, looks like an apprentice drilled them. From an engineering point of view, yeah they might be fine, you still have a fair thickness of metal between the bolts. But look at the bolt pattern on the 5x100 holes, not only is it not central to the 5x114, but they don't even look central to the hub hole (might just be the angle of the second photo though).
I can see why they have put them so close together, it's to avoid those two holes that were already in there. I personally would have put one of the bolt patterns over the top of those two, but maybe it didn't line up that way. I'd be sending them back. |
