Henry's C Street (SCCA Solo) progression
I figured I'd finally post a thread on how my C Street setup progresses and particularly my driving improves (if you can call it that).
I started with a smaller local group autocrossing back in 2010, messed around until 2012 with nothing serious. Few good results here and there with my 2010 Mazda3 2.5L, eventually ending up on BC Coilovers, MS3 rearsway, 16x8 FD wheels with 225 RS3s and a pisspoor alignment (and pisspoor attitude!) from an unnamed bigtime shop north of Orlando. When I bought the BRZ in June 2012, I knew from the day I ordered it that I wanted to take it more seriously. I want to thank @Rev Works for the help and time they've put in. Their shop manager has graciously helped me out when needed as this is my only car and I'm a broke bastard after buying this car. My racing has been helped by Watertech Inc in Lake Alfred, FL as they have helped with hotel room and picking up a set of shocks when I couldn't afford them. Redline Automotive has been great, a Miata specialty shop out of Kissimmee. Esteban has helped me when I need small stuff done and on very short notice (even though his shop has no business with my car). @Sam Strano has been helpful with information as well and his front bar is awesome. Since I have only been putting serious effort into this since September, I am far behind some of our resident hotshoe Twin drivers like @Scooby South and GTB/ZR-1 (can't tag his username with the characters :( ) . This past weekend, I ran my first national-level event, Dixie National Tour (I'll have a post on that later). My goal is to keep up at all local events this year, rock Dixie harder next year and try my hand at Nationals in 2014. I usually place well locally in PAX but as I found this weekend, these National guys bring a whole 'nother level of game. As I have more time, I'll post more information. I'll try to keep post 2 updated with videos. Setup currently (as of 1/20/14) is: 2013 BRZ Limited WRB 6MT Koni Sport Struts (aka Yellows) StranoParts.com 22mm Front sway bar aFe Drop in filter Custom Axleback-Delete Ferodo DS2500 brake pads Kosei K1-TS 17x7 wheels 235/40/17 Dunlop Direzza ZII tires |

Dixie National Tour: 3/15-3/17
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M97ONiZEI2E"]BRZ at Dixie National Tour SCCA 3-16-13 RTR #11 - YouTube[/ame] Had an amazing weekend at the Dixie National Tour. Met a lot of awesome people, learned a lot. Made some tweaks on Friday's Test n tune and Evo School (which sucked for me). Saturday, I made it all day with no offs and no cones but my first run, I nearly stopped on a track to avoid a sea of cones I plowed towards. Each run was quicker and quicker. Car had a bit of oversteer but I didn't want to make changes that weren't 100% show stopping. Dixie Started off rough with a bad (slow due to my late braking) first run, I pulled it together more and more each run. This is the 4th and final run, turning a 47.38. This was good enough for a 2nd place run in RTR. Lost to a more experienced driver in a '07 MSR MX-5 by .4 seconds. I was hoping for a victory on my first National Tour but I just wasn't quite that good. Didn't do well enough for the shootout. Infact, no RTR cars got close time wise. One got in on the random drawing though. I went in knowing this would happen, I was there for the class race. Sunday, a CS FR-S (Jadrice, not sure if he's on here) driver offered me his BFG Rivals to test (his DD tire). These drove awesome. I was slower than my RS3 runs but that's likely mostly to do with me being unfamiliar with them. Still stuck between these and Z2s for my next tire. Sunday only had 2 runs |
I would said 2nd in class at a national tour is pretty damn good!

nice driving

Next year is going to be interesting if these RTR/Stock -> Street modifications go through. Camber plates as well as my old Hotchkis bar will be going on (on stiff) with a slightly bigger rear sway to balance (likely an 08+ WRX bar).

The car has a really low Cg, they don't roll a lot. You know from your Camaro days I'm a fan of big front bars. But only where they work or are necessary. Hell, I'm running about as big as you can on a Corvette. :) This car doesn't need it, doesn't want it. MHO. |
Went to PCA Autocross today to use as a test and tune as the car wasn't perfect as Dixie but I just drove with it.
The track setup was just awful with poor design choice, no indication of what direction to go and ~12mph turns at start and end top it off (not to mention the lack of organization). Despite that, I made the best I could. With a local hotshoe to help (read: drive it better than I), we worked on the Koni settings and RS3 pressures. I use a crummy gauge currently as my good one broke so it's not accurate but it's repeatable. I seem to feel good at 35.5F and 35R. I will have to double check the shocks soon but I believe we ended at .5 or .75 turns from soft in the front, and 1.25 from stiff in the rear (don't recall if the rear had 2 or 2.25 total turns). I drove like crap most of the day as I couldn't read the track but Steven drove well, besting me by .9 seconds. There were no comparible cars as this was 80% Porsche event but I do know we beat every Cayman (multiple Rs!) and Boxsters out there. Most 911s as well. Steven jumped into GTB/ZR-1's FR-S and then set fastest lap of the day, by a large margin, before coning it away. |

That being said, I hope we keep the one bar requirement. |

I need to go back to high-HP SM cars, where I went faster in my own car than others (including some w/ jackets) when I let them drive my cars. This momentum business is killing me! lol |
Quote:
Momentum is difficult to maintain but when you get it right... wow is it fun. And Steven outran me by 9/10ths so I'm in a much worse boat than you hahah |
17x7 +42 RPF1s are coming soon. Debating on transferring the ~50% life RS3s to them or just wait to switch to Rivals
|
Did the enkei's come in? Pictures?
|
I have not ordered them yet. I need to move before end of May so any large purchases are on hold until that is done. Though, I know for a fact that there is a thread somewhere on this site with a WRB Limited BRZ on 17x7 +42 RPF1s, at stock height. It will look identical to how mine will with them
Edit: My Googlefu was quick - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=763183 @GotM has them installed with the exact same tires I will be getting too. |
