  • I believe the manufacturer figure was 137mph.
  • That I have not seen evidence of one going faster than 137mph that can't be accounted for by speedo over-read.
  • That young-ens on forums have a tendency to exaggerate.
  • People generally on forums tend to exaggerate.
  • People generally don't understand the square law of air resistance and believe that a small increase in HP gives a large increase in speed.
  • American's in particular tend to exaggerate.

Well, Paulca ....... what you say is generally true ......... :bellyroll:

So, I reckon I won't tell you about the catfish I caught hand graben, down in Greenville, MS ........:sigh:

You may want to check out the modern use for the word "catfish" on Urban Dictionary.
Strangely enough your sentence still makes sense even then.

That would be about 140 in US kilometers so about right!

All the official documents show a top speed of 140-145 mph (even the manufacturer can agree). Now of course that could vary a bit but there should not be any stock cars doing much more than that.

I did a quick search and found the brochures for both the 2013 and the 2017 Scion/Toyota. Unfortunately neither list top speed, I guess for some legalistic reason.

What I did find is that the 2013 was consistently listed in and around 145MPH but the 2017 was listed at 136MPH.

The 145 I cited was what used to be shown on the Scion Canada spec sheet that was similar to the BRZ one I posted.

The whole debate is sort of silly in my eyes anyway since once you are up to those speeds a difference of 4 or 5 MPH is just splitting hairs.

I may have inadvertently had mine up to 135 one time and I have little doubt that 140+ was doable but I was all ready getting nervous so backed off before finding out what the max was. The smallest bump in the road made it feel like I was reenacting a Dukes of Hazard episode.
