Assuming 165 hp at the wheels (estimated from http://www.mk5cortinaestate.co.uk/calculator4.php) and A=2.3 sq m (googled up somewhere) and Cd= 0.27
the max speed would be 242 km/h = 150.5 mph.

If anyone gives me more reliable figures for A and whp, I can recalculate.

Another calculation should be done using rev limit, gear and drive ratios, and tire sizes.

EDIT using 1.225 air density from wikipedia, instead of 1.3, I am getting 247 km/h = 153.5 mph.

On a hundred plus day. In central California on 91 octane fuel, loaded with 200lb of stuff in my stock 2013 manual. I got to 137. But it took a very long time to get there. In my 2013 auto with OFT tune, headers and 4.65 gear. I can get to 130 fast. Top speed....well I need to go to the dry lake beds to find out.

This actually brings up an interesting thought. The car will go fast, but not get there fast, no power, duh, so it seems that top speed would be an easy sacrifice to get some more acceleration to a lower top speed. It's got me thinking of going with a taller rear gear.

4.88 if auto and 4.56 if manual is the best in my book, I'm getting a 4.88 next summer my theoretical top speed will be between 140-148 which means absolutely nothing to me but it will totally shave off almost a second in the 0-60 time

Thanks, there @mdm, for doing the math.........

I believe the gear limited top speed for the MT would be around 170 MPH.

Yes, that's what I just calculated, 172 mph/276 km/h assuming incompressible tires, and 163 mph/262 km/h assuming 5% (1.5 cm) compression under weight.

I also did calculations for MT, I never looked closely at the gear ratios and did not realize how huge the difference was. I mean, based on redline and gear ratios, AT could theoretically reach 217 mph (348 km/h) in the 6th. Even in the fifth it hits the aerodynamic limit well before redline.

The other interesting difference is that AT can hit 60 mph in the 2nd, while MT needs to shift to the 3rd. Does this mean that they made AT really very tame but fiddled with the ratios so that the 0-60 time does not look too bad compared to MT?

Edit haha I first wrote 136. Hell no. Not 136. 126. Small private(?) Airport that's abandoned. Maybe from cold war era? Dunno.

Where if you dont mind me asking? :D

I did 132 in the middle of nowhere in desert with a passenger sleeping till a cop caught me.......could have gone higher.... :word: There was nothing for miles.... a prefect straight road heading the direction of horizon.....but yet there is a cop. Damn those guys

But car kind lost will to move pass 120.

His life.....

Keenercarguy 06-05-2016 06:50 PM

Top speed I've reached was 132 mph on the stock LRR tires, don't ask me where ;)
Since then the best I've managed is 129 on Pilot Super Sports.

Stratoside 06-05-2016 06:53 PM

i did 110 MPH, didn't want to go higher

In VA? (if the answer is yes, you probably should not say that in public ;) )

Warp factor 10. In first gear.

Because I've got a hairy chest...

Cough

All of the above + I was very busy with emails between me & district attorney's assistant for the following month.

Cough

ps: apparently a lot ppl do that in the desert.... So..... It wasn't as bad. Just saying this to make myself feel better. :suicide: I mean what kind cop parks in the middle of desert where it literally takes one hour + either way to find to any thing resemble a human settlement.
