Relocated Third Brake Light to Trunk Scion Logo

Am I the first to do this? I know I'm not the only one who finds the location of the 3rd brake light extremely annoying, so yesterday a friend of mine helped me do this:

What do you think?

I LOVE your username, and I LOVE your color, but I think this is USELESS..

Also where did you get the material for the rear deck. I still need to cover mine.

Cool Idea.
Not sure how practical it is, but i think its an awesome DIY.
Do you have a write-up on how you did it?

Useless how? Gets rid of the flying saucer-looking thing in my rear view mirror and keeps me legal.

Perfect. That's one of the few things I dislike that the designers came up with. You put it where it should have been in the first place. Good job.

I would make sure you do your homework before you declare it "legal." I'm pretty sure the light has to be a certain distance above the level of the main brake lights. Also, it doesn't look nearly as bright as the OEM light. Between the two of those, I think you just made yourself a bit more of a cop magnet.

All that said, I agree that the placement could have been better, and I actually like the light that one of the other guys posted in here (at the top of the window). Good luck and drive safely :)

I looked up the laws for Missouri when I did mine. It was if the vehicle comes equipped with a 3rd brake light OEM then it must have one and it must be above the line between the rear brake lights. I was worried about visibility as well. I figured if I modded it to something less visible and got rear ended then they would point to that mod.

I think if you did the word scion across that trim piece like the sema car you'd be fine. I'd be worried about your's being "visible" to pass. But I don't know what the laws are for your d.o.t.

^This. You got rid of a lot of real estate and traded it for a smaller plot...

I like this version of raising and widening the third brake light better. This car is so low, lowering the third brake light is asking to get rear ended by an SUV or truck.
@GremlinGSP where did you get this light bar? Any videos?

GremlinGSP 03-18-2013 07:08 PM

to be honest it was like $12 off amazon. I wrapped it in di-noc to make it look better. mounting it was the trick. I partially removed the headliner and drilled it into the roof supports. It has 2 feet made from aluminum that reach back about 6 inch or so to connect it to the roof.

I don't have any vids right now. I've been meaning to do a write up but was wanting to wait until I finished the deck lid. Mine still has all the holes in it. I really like the red Moshpit put on his. Guess I may just stop by Hobby Lobby or something and see what I can find.

I love the idea, but it's not bright enough. This is one of the few cosmetic mods I think I would actually pay for if someone made it.

Find some comments to be useless but this looks like a contender.

I took note of the last trooper who pulled me over and their third brake light was about an inch above the tails. Iowa
