Trakk Tape

Has anyone tried Trakk Tape?

http://www.trakktape.com

I was able to get the cone marks off of my whiteout FR-S with some Griot's Garage Speed Shine, a microfiber towel and some elbow grease last summer, but you know what they say, and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Interested to see if anyone has experience with Trakk Tape as I am researching products to prep my car for the track this season.

I've considered it. It's pretty expensive though at $35 per roll.

I've been using it for a year or so, since it was released anyways, and I really like it. Nice and thick, and it comes off clean. Worth the money in my opinion. It also comes in handy for all kinds of things around the garage/house, though it is pretty expensive to use like that.

Painter's tape is my go-to.

Painter's tape *might* hold up against a newer cone in good condition. Some cones are banged up with torn edges - it's these edges you have to worry about, especially in cold weather when the cone is much less pliant. They will slice right through the painters tape and cut your paint.

For the track - forget it. I knew a guy who spent 5 hours putting painters tape all over the front of his Corvette. Some guy went off in front of him and kicked up gravel at him. When he removed the painter's tape he found that all the gravel had cut straight through the tape and into his paint.

IMO, if you're at an autocross or a track you're in an extreme usage situation and you should expect the shiny bits to not be so shiny at the end of the day (if you're doing it right). Ever see a pristine, freshly-waxed-looking race car at the end of a race? Me neither.

I have an XPEL clear bra on my car (s2000), and it holds up to cone hits very well. It has a few scratches in the bra, but they really aren't noticable, and the rubber cleans off easily. Plus if it ever gets too beat up it can be replaced.

Hi, I'm new here, but stumbled across this thread. I founded TrakkTape about eight years ago when the clear bra on my Lotus Elise was getting little cuts in it during track days. I could touch up the paint, but couldn't repair the bra, so started trying to find a solution, which ended up being TrakkTape.

A couple of years ago, I did some custom work on the front of my car and decided not to put on a clear bra again. I just use TrakkTape on track days and take my chances on the street.

As to cost, the tape is manufactured in 600 foot rolls, so when we make the smaller rolls, we have to strip it down, cut it and re-roll it. So my cost on the smaller rolls is much higher per foot.

TrakkTape is the best value for people who do lots of track days. Also, I make the 3" rolls because there was a request for them, but personally, I virtually never use them and don't really consider them good value. The 6" goes down way faster, as well.

Pricewise, the 6" x 100' roll is $65, but the 6" x 600' roll is six times as much tape at a little more than twice the price at $145. I offer the same rolls for forums at $120. Just tell me which forum you saw it on and, of course, if you like it, a good review is appreciated. Also, I offer a no questions asked, full moneyback guarantee including return postage.

TrakkTape is just a tiny little garage company. Most of what I make from it goes to race rubber, brakes, etc. for my Lotus. I'm always happy to answer any questions, so feel free to email me through the site, or call me on my cell at 760-285-2220. I love helping people protect their cars!

Thanks for lending an ear. David

I've used this stuff the past couple of years. It works really well. Just be sure you follow the instructions by waiting a bit between spraying it on and wiping it off. If you try to wipe right away it doesn't work that well, but if you wait 10 to 20 seconds it wipes off clag in one easy swipe. It really is a fantastic product.

Thought members might like to know that the American brand TrakkTape - which provides temporary protection of the most vulnerable parts of your 86GT's bodywork - is now available throughout the UK & Europe. Good stuff for use on long road trips too and especially at bumpy venues such as Bruntingthorpe in UK
