going forced induction

I plan on going with forced induction soon (most likely supercharged) so my question is if i should go with a header or wait for the forced induction kit and go with the manifold that comes with the kit? I already have a test pipe and catback. Sorry if this question is elementary. Thanks for the input guys!

If you're going turbo you will get a header with it. At least with the AVO you do. Don't know whether you would want to keep the stock catted unit with any other kit.

With SC, do whatever you want to open up the engine.

Yeah a SC just changes the intake manifold, so you're free to mod your exhaust just like you would NA. If the SC bolts up to the OEM intake (such as innovatives) you can get an upgraded intake as well.

If you go turbo I wouldn't buy anything because you'll get an exhaust manifold for the turbo and an intake. You'll also want a full 3" exhaust.

well since i have already a test pipe and catback, i'm assuming i should go with a sc or that stuff is a waste. the piping now is 2.5. well i could go with the turb but then i would be restricting the flow quite a bit.

Most complete turbo kits will have a header. But you can get gains if you get a header with your SC.

I thought the exhaust ports are 2.5" where the header bolts on, so widening beyond the narrowest point is ineffectual on back pressure.

Wanting to do the same in the futurr, waiting for header.

vortech supercharger looks very appealing. apparently some good gains so perrin is stating. i wonder if john @Visconti will be able to do something with this.

He has a vortech kit listed in his signature, right above the banner. There are conflicts between Perrin's claims for power and everyone else's claims on power though, so might want to see how it all sorts out before taking action.

I ran a small KO3s on my GLI and ran a full 3" exhaust. You can run a 2.5" on a small turbo just fine but a lot of people will choose just to run a straight 3" in case they ever decide to upgrade, you want as little back pressure as possible after the turbo anyways so it doesn't do any harm to run that big. If you already have a 2.5" exhaust you can use it on your turbo build.

I just checked and full blowns kit comes with a 3" dp so you'd need to make a reducer to run it with a 2.5" system and it wont be as free flowing.

The P&L, Avo and accelerated kits all run 2.5 exhaust just fine i'm pretty sure full blown is the only 3" but they use the same basic kit parts for the base and premium kits. It's all about designed upgradeability.

That's also why P&L put the vband on their header. It allows you to upgrade to their turbo without you having to buy a new one.

Noob4Life 03-17-2013 11:24 PM

I think the full blown makes more power than avo and p&l too I could be wrong though. I know when I go fi itll be a fullblown stage 1 with the upgraded turbo so I wont plan on keeping any 2.5" exhaust parts I buy.

Just food for thought.
Accelerated's kit (EDIT: also Ptuning's kit) retains the stock exhaust manifold.
So any aftermarket header should work with that kit, if you choose Turbo.
