Price information officially released in Japan

Only for 86

RC: 1.99 M Yen (about $25K)
G: 2.41 M Yen (about $31K)
GT: 2.79M Yen (about $35K) -> This is roughly an FR-S mono spec equivalent
GT Limited: 2.97M Yen (about $37K)

:confused0068:

Hope this is not an indication of a sticker shock in the US.

Nope. These prices don't mean anything for the US market.

Compare other cars in Japan vs exchange rate vs price in america.

It's not. There are many factors that decide pricing in Japan such as taxes, demand, maintaining exclusivity, etc.

ayau 01-05-2012 12:43 AM

If anything, it's an indication of the 86 releasing soon in Japan. If the US market has the same release date, then you can expect prices for the BRZ/FR-S as well, possibly at the Detroit Auto Show in mid January.

not looking good for us Aussies...

A Gomez 01-05-2012 12:48 AM

Cars will be available from April in Japan and they will start taking orders in February.

Well... for example (couldn't find any with Toyota sorry)... the CR-Z sells for roughly 2.25M¥ in japan... in USA = 19600$USD

so if 2.25M yen = 19,600$USD, this means the GT (2.79M) would sell approx @ 24,300$USD, but as we all know, cars in japan are more expensive than in usa... so you could probably take 2-3k off easily... I'm saying 21K for FR-S in the states... 23,500$ in Canada

This is by no mean a scientific/marketing oriented calculation, but could be not so far from reality...

switchlanez 01-05-2012 01:05 AM

Lol just this morning in another thread I posted it would be around $30,000 ballpark.

poormans_LFA 01-05-2012 01:06 AM

no need to create hysteria over prices that will have nothing to do w/ those set here in the U.S.

pastuch 01-05-2012 01:27 AM

This whole thread is largely meaningless as a predictor for North American pricing. The problem is the giant hikes in Yen value have made Toyotas far more expensive in Japan.

2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE
USA: $25900

Canada: $26900 (Canadians should be writing thank you letters to Toyota for not raping us like every other fucking car company!)

Japan: 3.04 million yen (Equates to 39,619.20 USD)

Great article about Toyota's sales forecast for 2012 and why it's going to be a huge challenge:

May not be US prices but definitely related through some formuals/variables. Maybe someone knowledgeable in import/export can shed light?

Edit: Above post helps, thanks.
