MotorOne Head Unit
1 Attachment(s)
I'm still waiting on my car, but the dealer has ordered their recommended head unit with navigation for the 86.
It seems to sit flush and have all the basic features, but at R11,200 excl. VAT I'm concerned that I'd be better off with a Parrot Asteroid Smart or something similar. I like that it's Toyota approved so they won't give me shit if it gives me trouble, but I'd feel better if someone has seen, used or owned one that can give me some feedback on it. It's made by MotorOne, but they seem not to focus on head units exclusively. I have an iPhone 4S which seems to be supported according to the brochure and I'm not looking for anything too fancy. I just don't want to pay top-of-the-line money and get entry-level usability or performance. Any one have any experience with them? |
"Advanced Navigaxtion system"?
If it was Toyota approved it would have been on their website and that part number would have existed. |
I don't think that's a Toyota part number, I think it's the MotorOne part number.
Still, it seems this unit is recommended by this dealership, but not all dealerships (as in Toyota SA) because then most of you would have heard of it. It would really help if someone can at least say, they've had one in their car and didn't like it. Then I could put up with a wait for a Parrot. |
Don't waste your money on this unit, it is double the price of all the other top quality units.
Choice is your at the,end of the day. |

There is no wait for a Parrot, it's already been launched in SA but the choice is yours. |
I have one fitted in my car,it's basic, think there is a lot more better once out there.
|
Also have a look at caska.co.za they're around R10k.

Thanks for the advice, guys.
Does anyone know if there's a Cape-based dealer / installer for the Parrot, and would they have the spacers and wiring adapters required for the 86? |
Have a look here:
www.smac.co.za |
In a stroke of good fortune, the installer doesn't have stock of this unit and the dealer suggested the Parrot Asteroid Smart as a replacement (which I had mentioned to them earlier). They don't have stock of the harness or faceplate, but hopefully they can get some from SMAC.

I got an Alpine W920R for the same sort of cash, much better unit. Requires spacers but if the installer is good then it shouldn't be an issue.

Hi Sav
I have the Motor One unit fiited on my car, U seen it when we did the last breakfast run. It has SAT Nav, blue tooth, Iphone cable etc. I never had a problem with mine. Kind of enjoying it as I can plug in my WD 1TB hard drive, watch videos whilst driving, listen to music etc. I also installed the reverse camera unto this system. I think it's also personal preference. I got mine from McCarthy Centurion. Speak to Adrie at the dealership - she will hook you up. Thanks |
Howzit
Wasn't it the Caska? Looked exactly the same and it is indeed nice. My issue with the Motorone unit is that dealers are selling it as a "Toyota approved accessory" which it is not and putting a massive markup on it. When I had the Kenwood installed the shop could do it for R8000. |
