Toyota dealer contest scam
So here's a fun story. My mother's 2010 Rav4 was flooded/totaled in hurricane sandy. It was leased so she just went ahead and leased a new 2012 at Millennium Toyota on Long Island. Around a month or so later, we get a phone call saying that when she leased the car, she was entered into a drawing to win a new car and that she was picked as a finalist in the drawing. A week later, we get a voice mail from the dealership stating that "they have good news!" from the same guy that originally called and to call them back asap. She calls them back all excited that cause she thinks she won a new car. The manager got on the phone and said he had no idea what she was talking about and that there was never any contest or anything. She gave him the guys name that called and it was verified that he works in sales. They said they would call her back with an update but never did. She filed a complaint to corporate and the dealership never responded and are acting as if it never happened. This guy must've been collecting paperwork and calling random people in hopes that he could get their personal information so they could claim their nonexistent prize. Great to know how much they care about customer privacy and security
