HKS EL 4-2-1 Header - Pics / Videos / Dynos - FT-86 SpeedFactory Review

Here we go again. Time for another review and another header. Seems like this will be a hot topic for some time.

What we're looking at here is the HKS Equal Length Header for the Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT-86. This is a 4-2-1 design which HKS has designed in house like everything else they do.

We will be bolting this onto our Red Scion FR-S which is being used for SCCA STX competition. We will have install photos, and videos as usual. We are also going to be strapping it down to the dyno as well. :)

We had a very small batch come in for us here and a few select customers who will be posting as well. But we wanted to get one for our other car so we can compare a few differences if any between EL and UEL.
( We also have another EL header showing up next week. ;) )

Time for some pics. Quality on this is top notch as to be expected. Comes with wiring extension as the moved the location of one of the O2's from stock location which makes sense since this is an EL. They also toss in another bung and cap, so if you want you can drill and weld it on for a wideband sensor install.

This is why you should have gotten a catted front pipe so you don't have to wait to get one on a header.

Yikes... think I'll still be sticking with the Nameless header. Doesn't look like anyone else is doing longtube designs.

I have to admit the whole HKS system together is a bit quieter than i thought it would be.

This really looks like the factory header without the heatshields...

true, but i went with the ark performance one that has the helmholtz on there to eliminate the dreadful drone. I do know nameless is working on one with a cat as well, but I have heard maybe a thing or two about ark performance doing a header. I personally would love to stick with a full ark system since my test pipe and catback is from them. it's just the waiting game. i have other things i can do to the car while i wait though.

Yeah... I do not know if I would actually trust a HKS header after seeing all of their exhaust rust threads and pics

how are the dyno results coming along?

liquidsky44 03-28-2013 05:05 AM

With this header would I still be able to keep the heat shields on with the headers installed?

Sorry, we haven't even installed these on the red car, yet! Have been making suspension changes on the silver car for one lap and getting the new shop in order.

We hope to, at least, have some videos up of this paired with a T1R exhaust this weekend.

No, this header is a completely different design from the OEM header.

Cheers!
