Unless they offer it without an LSD for example, all that would be then is just pre-installing an option item and selling the car with that option already installed. Whether they dropped it in at the plant, or at the dealership....it's still an optional LSD if you can get the car without an LSD. And Scion offered an LSD as an option for the tC.

FR-S comes with an LSD standard so it won't be an option, unless they offer a different brand alternative through the dealer will there be an optional LSD aside from the standard LSD.

I think it matters because of the disclaimer when you build anything on the Scion site. Any "option" you click on has a disclaimer saying that this is the MSRP for that accessory installed at the dealer and that prices may vary. I'm just saying it is a different tier of "optional" and the expected quality of the install would be different because the dealer would likely be disassembling something to install that option so you don't have the same quality control that the factory does with alignment jigs, torque controlled nutrunners, testing equipment, etc. The variance of quality from an "option" installed by one dealer and another dealer can be massive where you don't have that variance in mass production. Scion is really set up for minimal options (color and transmission) and loads of accessories. They tend to take their accessories a lot further than most brands, such as the LSD for the tC. An LSD is typically a factory option instead of a dealer installed option.

I personally like that Scion focuses on dealer installed type options because that means that it is pretty easy to retrofit something if it doesn't come on the vehicle initially.

Gotcha...yea if it's not done right though, then they will be redoing it. Aside from that, if I'm throwing "performance parts" onto my ride, I do them myself, or my tuner shop of choice does it. I'm not a big fan of dealer or factory performance parts.

LSD will be standard...its standard on almost all the models on the Toyota 86 and BRZ, except for the Automatic versions of the Toyota 86 Low-Spec.

I do not see Scion dumping the LSD in this car to make the price lower.

Yea, i heard the engine was optional :)

Paint Colour.
Auto/Manual.

Those are your options.

Dealer installed options seems to be the debate and I would hightly recomend against getting any as they tend to be highly overpriced and in many cases of poor quality. As a former Toyota/Scion salesman I am fully aware of the insane mark-up charged to dealer installed options. Factory options I have no issues with while I still intend to get no options of any kind. I will have to wait longer for deliver but I can deal with that.

All Scions are mono spec, no options. Dealer/ port accessories are all you get. Only real choices from the factory are color and transmission. This is what the salesman told me who took my deposit for an FR-S to be delivered in June 2012.

How much was your deposit?

To be honest this list with prices can be tracked as well to see which dealerships are selling the options the cheapest, basically with members all over the USA we should see real fast which option are available, who has what items, and which dealerships are selling them the cheapest, if I save even 500$ on the cost of the car meaning if the TRD brake kit in WA is 2000 and the same kit in TX is 1500 well you get what I mean, that is a cheap airline ticket in my book to get the best price.

duffman13 01-05-2012 02:09 PM

All I see happening is color and transmission.

Maybe a step up package to the HIDs/Nav/Leather or something.

Then a whole slew of TRD crap like springs, spoiler, ground effects, BBK, short shifter, shift knob, etc.

Looking at how scion does their optioning, everything is pretty much a la carte.

Updated the list with the BeSpoke Infotainment Audio System.

Nope, they have a stupid thought and immediately make a thread about it.

Bespoke infotainment system will be standard...
