Perihelion

...is the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid or comet where it is nearest to the sun. On Earth this happens around January 3rd each year.

Conversely, aphelion is the point furthest from the sun. This happens around July 4th.

@Perihelion - your username reminded us of this terrific piece of trivia! Who else has fun knowledge to share?

My birthday is January 3, 1986. My car is a '13 Toyota GT 86. See the pattern? :D

We noticed the birthday, but that's really cool with the car. Well done!

The effects of the solstice, just as the effects of the moon's gravity on the tides is delayed.

If you look at how the moon pulls the swell of the ocean it's a bit "behind" the direct line of sight/pull of the moon. The same type of delay happens in regards to the solstice. The coldest day/week of the year doesn't typically happen on the shortest day of the year (dec 21st) it happens in January (typically) just as the hottest time of the year is the month following the summer solstice (typically).

NDT taught me "That our bodies atoms are traceable to supernova stars that scattered their chemical enrichment across the cosmos, spawning the birth of star systems that contain planets, at least one of them containing life."

Yup.

My name is leon and I like to party....

But really...the sky is blue b/c of the curvature of the earth and the way the suns light reflects off the molecules in the atmosphere...think Pink Floyd, garden hoses and rainbows…. just the right angle to make blue. : )

Maybe this should become the NDT thread?

You are less likely to cut your self using a safety razor or straight razor then using a modern multi-blade, even though a safety/straight razor is considered more dangerous.

Hitler was a painter, not bad too. Only nice thing i could say about him besides the awesome stash he ruined.

Strings on musical instruments use to be made out of sheep guts or other animal organ parts, many many years ago.

I could do this all day.

I think it just did.

Another great quote from NDT:

"In 5-billion yrs the Sun will expand & engulf our orbit as the charred ember that was once Earth vaporizes. Have a nice day."
