Frs vs wrx......on a lake.

Just a video by another instructor in a wrx taken while we were prerunning an ice course. There's no timing or anything so this was just fun.
So no comments about how far from the cones I was. Lol

Pretty sure you basically walk out a ways and take a sample of the ice to test the thickness. Over a certain thickness and you're good to go. But I don't live somewhere with frozen lakes handy so that's just my best guess.

I think recent weather conditions would come into play as well. If it's been -10 for two months I think it's more likely to be safe than if it's been bouncing around between 20 and 40 F and freezing/melting a bunch.

That looks like so much fun.

What tires are you on?

That's the correct answer but I much prefer husker's answer.

Well, we're out on the lake again today. The wrx driver wants to make another chase video. I'll post it if we do. ^^^^i'm sure glad that the frs is significantly lighter than that blue awd boat anchor. :)

I leaned to drive a manual on a frozen lake near where I grew up in MN. Didn't have to worry about killing the engine! Take a look on google maps at Lake Mille Lacs in MN. About 100 miles in circumference. In the winter, the local county plows a road going north/south and east/west over the lake. People drive across the lake to save time on the way to and from work. Over 5 inches of ice and you can walk and fish. 10 inches you can snowmobile and ATV. 15+ inches and it's balls to the wall time. Trucks, cars, ice golfing, etc. no problem.

Had a CEL that would come on the same corner every lap even after stopping to reset the ecu every lap. Even the second half of this ^^^ video was done with ~4000rpm limit in limp mode. I parked the the car for the rest of the day after this lap. :(

That scene and performing on the lake looks breathe taking and more fun.
