FR-S vs e30

....admittedly an auto 'vert, so not a totally parallel comparison.

First off, the seats. E30 sport seats are amazingly good, and frs seats are, well, not terrible. They do the job and don't punish, but when I walk out my front door I want to sit in the e30, not in the frs (added bonus, when I sit in the e30 I can look at the frs). And the overall interior of the e30 is spartan like the frs, but just a better designed place to be.

Second, while I want to sit in the e30, I generally want to drive the frs (sunny and mild spring days like today, excepted). I always knew that rebuilding the suspension bits should have been a priority for the BMW, but its a 'vert and I don't have time or space to work on it seriously, so I didn't. And holy crap it shows in a back to back drive. The 23 years show in serious slop, the frs is just tight and goes where and when I want it. Again, not entirely fair, I'd love to have a recently redone e30 to compare the feel on a more even basis.

Lastly, the engine. Dear, sweet Jesus I will miss that 6. The boxer is a cool little motor, and sounds all ag and agro, which is amusing, but sweet it is not.

So some regrets, but the handling, and reliability made it happen (the e30 is damn solid, but just tired, and needs constant attention).

Plus, my wife thinks the frs is sexy, and the e30...not. Done!

Seriously though, those must be some amazing seats to make the FR-S seats make you go "meh..." Admittedly, I haven't owned or even driven many great cars in my day, but I feel spoiled rotten every time I slip into my car. I don't think I'll ever feel comfortable driving anything else.

Miss my E30, was just an entry-level 316i with the M40 motor but it handled beautifully. Sadly rust, age and neglect forced its sale. My first RWD experience.

I bought a '91 318is to be my daily so I could get a BRZ but not drive it 22k miles a year. E30's don't mind packing on the miles :) 26xxlbs, 134hp, 5spd Getrag, 4.10 viscous LSD, sport seats and suspension. Offered in 1991 only.

The e30 is an auto... So the FRS is the winner by default!

Nice. If I had a hardtop and 5 speed, I might have been tempted to just stick with the e30 by itself.
