Watanabe/ROTA RKR for 86 Interest List

Fellow 86'ers,

There have been some discussions on the watanabe r8 for the 86 and I'd like to post some progress I've made with @WheelDude.com on this.

For those of you who do not know, Rota makes a lookalike called the RKR.

they are available in a 18x8.5 configuration. However, many of us are looking for a 17x8 or 17x9.

I've been talking to wheeldude about this for a few weeks and they (as always) have been very open minded and helpful. In order to get this wheel produced, wheeldude is requiring the following:

*****
Requirements from wheeldude:
-40 people needed that are willing to put a $200 non-refundable deposit down
-The lead time will be anywhere from 12-16 weeks. (3-4 months) since it's a new mold.
-Approximate cost/set: 849$
-Shipping to the lower 48 states is $70
-Add tax if you live in California
-Hawaii / Alaska / Puerto Rico is $250

*****

For now, I am just posting casually posting to see if we have enough interest to make this happen.

I feel that a 17x8 RKR would really suit this car. Lightweight, a throwback style to the original 86, track oriented, but still narrow enough to keep playful driving dynamics.

Please post if you are genuinely interested in buying and would like to be updated on this development! Please include in your post opinions on offset/color.

I'd really like to pursue an order of the same color as pictured on wheeldudes site.

What would the weight be on the 17's compared to stock?

turbos86 03-09-2013 09:29 PM

Wouldn't mind a set in 17x9 +38 or 17x8 +30

HATED1 03-10-2013 01:33 AM

i would be interested in a set if they were black or gunmetal, 17x9 +35, also depending on weight.

SDIAZ 03-10-2013 01:45 AM

I would be interested in the same ^

17X8 or 17X9

I like them just as they are in the pic you posted.

Please keep me updated.

17x 8.5 +38 maybe...

Same color/finish as the 18"

I have seen these 17x9 here in Aus but only 4 hole with +25 or similar and also in the UK 17x9 5x114.3 so the basic mold is there, now it's just PCD's and offsets..

Interested for sure but would need a shipping cost to Australia before committing ..Thanks

I really2 want them... too bad i live too far away..

ap1mikeo 03-15-2013 01:45 AM

anyone else? looks like we may not have a shot at 40 people until there are more FRZ's on the road.

GT86drifter 03-15-2013 10:58 AM

if we can have a 17x9 +35 with more concave im in

dem00n 03-15-2013 12:02 PM

I'd buy them, but not in that color. I'd prefer silver painted or just like the one below.
