Stupid sales people

at the Subaru dealership

me - "I'm going to go look at the frs too"
salesman - "the frs engine is off to the side. the brz is better balanced."

at the Toyota/scion dealership

salesman - "I wouldn't buy an frs this year. it has 200 hp which is kind of sad I think. they're coming out with a 360 hp one next year."

I don't remember word for word, but that was pretty much it.
I can't believe they are willing to bullshit so badly lol

Jeong 03-09-2013 01:21 PM

why would a salesman even say that... must not make much sales.......

Ponwh 03-09-2013 01:26 PM

lol. toyota is always better

Gearhd79 03-09-2013 01:28 PM

Funny thing is a much higher hp version will be over 30k then it will be like every other over priced sports car out there. If it were to ever happen

Atticus808 03-09-2013 01:41 PM

I just can't believe they would lie like that. I mean yeah everyone knows the stereotype of salesman, but telling me the engine is off to the side????? lol. I couldn't believe it. and the other guy saying they will be coming out with a higher powered one????? these people have no idea about the product they're selling.

marky 03-09-2013 01:43 PM

seems like the only thing they know about is money  salesman looks at customers as a walking dollar bill... they could careless about the car..they just want to sell you one..they are highly trained morans sniffing money employees..

when i got mine at the dealer at toyota/scion i asked questions and the sales guy was like.. um yeah hold on let me look.. oh yeah thats the trunk release button :slap: was testing them

why would they even bother? the cars are selling like crazy right now.

the only problem people should have is choosing what color.

the only thing I got from sales people was

"They're coming out with a convertible soon."

which Toyota has, but I don't like convertibles anyway. so it doesn't matter.

Car salesman know nothing about cars. I constantly correct them when shopping for cars. I'm sure they hate it. A Mazda salesman tried to sell my fiancé a Mazda 3. Saying,"The Skyactiv has a compression ratio of 13:1, higher than the FR-S." I said,"The FR-S is 12.5:1 & the US Skyactiv is 12:1."

You will get bad salesmanship in any field. It would be the exact same if you were to buy a suit, furniture, house, etc...

This is more a case that they don't take the time to learn their respective product and their competitors offerings.

I hear garbage like this all day long from my "senior" salesman here at the store. It's not that he is trying to take advantage of a customer or disparage them. He just doesn't focus enough on the actual products that we sell.

Not every car salesman fits into y'alls neat little "We Hate Salesman Box".

I constantly frustrate all of my Subaru Reps because I will generally know more about everything than what they are trying to "teach" us at ride-n-drives and/or corporate trainings.

true not all sales people are idiots.
the key if you don't know the product is to not make things up
or just learn it.....
I mean I don't know every single thing about the frs/brz. but do people not realize that if you're looking at a performance car, you've most likely done your research, and that the Internet has a ton of info?
I sometimes want to quit my job and become a car salesman just to see if I can be the top salesman every month.

I'd like to say that not all salesmen are like that! Rich Manas at Kearny Mesa Scion here in San Diego was a pleasure to deal with. A real gear-head with a love for cars and a visible drive to put you in the car YOU want, not something to meet his sales quotas. I used to own a tC RS 1.0 and was talking with him off and on over the past year and a half about the FR-S. I was even on the waiting list before launch to get a red 6MT, but had to defer the phone call as I had just bought a condo last year. All the while, he never pushed anything on me, never tried to talk me into anything, and only gave me my options and told me what was available.

In terms of actually GETTING the car, I had been in an accident a little under 2 months ago which accelerated my buying process. I ran some other options before concluding that getting anything BUT the FR-S (like a midrange econobox or hatch) would just make me regret not getting the FR-S. He said it would be 4-6 weeks for order of a new delivery (Firestorm 6MTs are apparently extremely hard to get in socal). But he worked some magic and got me one in 2 weeks by doing a dealer allocated trade with another Firestorm coming in off the boat from Japan that hadn't been pre-sold. Ironically, a lady who had put a deposit down a couple weeks before me had still not gotten her special order, since hers was a specific order instead of picking through the options of unsold cars. He even had options deleted off the car (bespoke and I think one or two other small things) to keep my price down like I had asked, and it came in bare bones. He definitely worked hard to get me my car and we would chat and share stories each time I was in. He's a big F1 fan too, so that was always fun to talk about, especially with the crazy 2012 season.

I used to work at a dealer many many years ago, and yeah, a lot of salesmen are slimeballs who think nothing of you except taking your money. Some are not though. Some seem to actually care about finding you the right thing, even if it's not their product or it costs less. I've been going to Kearny Mesa Scion for 8 years now and will keep going there for some time.

Just gotta remember, the typical customer knows nothing about cars. The same BS comes from just about any salesman in any field. They usually just need to act like they know what they're talking about.

Wow - those are pretty bad. I laughed when a while back I asked if they had any FR-Ss on the lot and the guy said, "Oh yeah, we've got a couple, plus a used one." (this was last October). I said really? I've got to see this.

He took me to an FJ Cruiser.
