And the other car might be around sub-$20k.

The last time I looked at a new S2000 in 2008 they were offered at $26k, $6k off sticker.

yeah. im sure it can be done but i cant see toyota knowingly price themselves out of a profit that way. i just imagine half a ferrari engine costs half as much as a ferrari engine.

i really dont think its fair to compare prices from 2008 considering the drastic changes of the global economy. in 2008 you could also buy a brand new miata for cheaper than you can buy a used 2008 miata today. i doubt you could have had an s2000 for 26k in 2007.

personally, i would like to see them just follow the model the elise left us. just a small application of forced induction. it might only change the peak power slightly but see real gains with the area under the curve.

I'd like to see them do something about the torque dip. I'm really surprised they didn't work that through. Not a fan of forced induction though.

im not smart enough to know why that tq dip is there. i do think its amazing that they make that much tq, that much hp and keep the motor happy up in the revs. ive seen the tq dip in other cars too so im not exactly sure there is a way around it.

I like to think of it as a feature. We get a nice strong spike right off the bat at 2k and another spike at 5k. Normal cruising speeds will have the engine between 2-4k. So that dip actually HELPS with gas mileage by producing less power at normal driving speeds.

Now if you're flogging it, other than starting from a stand-still, you should never be below 5k and you'll never even notice the dip. Each upshift starts you out at 5.5-6k anyway, and if you fall below that while slowing down then it's time to grab the next gear. These are not torque monsters and that shift knob wants to be used! The S2000 was the same way.

Oh ok. I really hope Toyota breathes new life of sport cars just like how I remember them growing up.
