Replace auto transmission at 60k?
http://a230.g.akamai.net/7/230/83646...ranty_2013.pdf
The maintanance guide shows replace the auto trans at 60k on page 36. I thought this was just oil, but oil is specifically stated for the manual trans on page 39. Anyone else notice this or ask their service tech about it? |
Page 39 is "Manual Transmission Oil".
I can't see why they did it that way insted of putting them right next to each other, but I can't imagine why you would ever replace a working transmission. |
I'm pretty sure it's just fluid if you read ahead to 43 it makes it look like poor wording. No need to be alarmed replacing the trans at 60k sounds more like a ford problem lol

Pretty sure there was a guy with an auto who posted here a month back or so that already had 100k miles on his car. Said everything worked and ran fine

When we do our maintenance intervals we replace the Trans and Diffy fluids on a 30k interval for both Automatics and Manuals. It is great preventive maintenance. Several of our customers with 02 WRXs have hit 200,000 miles on the original trans and engine. So there is some value in doing your change intervals on a shorter basis in our opinion.

You're RIGHT! The manual does indicate that. Fear not, you're AT does NOT need replacement at 60k miles. It's just an error by the manual's editor. The manual should read: Automatic Transmission FLUID. Scheduled maintenance calls for FLUID REPLACEMENT. Just out of curiosity, I checked my 2013 Subaru BRZ Manual, and they correctly identify FLUID inspection/replacement schedules. Subaru wrote their manual correctly. You must be careful reading Japanese manuals; they often have errors and they are usually humorous, but in this example they've given you a serious fright, haven't they? :D Now, spark plug replacement at 60k miles is annoying: It's likely to cost around $250-$300 ... for four plugs. Because, according to the Subaru shop manual, the engine must be all but removed to gain access to the plugs buried down next to the wheels wells. I have read here on the forums, however, that some enterprising tuners have actually managed to replace the plugs without lifting the engine, so who knows? If the plugs cannot be replaced cheaply, I plan on ignoring the 60k plug change, since I'll probably sell the car before 70k miles, and the iridium-tipped plugs could easily last to 100k+ miles. ;) |
