IronX and OptiCoat
Hey guys just wanted to give a heads up and let you know what my experience with this was. I got my car opticoated in Nov and drive it pretty much every day and living in michigan i got alot of yellow oxidation mark (A few other threads on here show the same thing). I tried some of the ironx at the recommendation of a few people and it worked great on getting the spots out even without really teasing it in to the spots.
After one use however, i definitely notice a difference in the waterphobic properties of the opticoat, especially on plastic parts (bumper/trim/etc). After several washes and ONR and all that, it still doesn't repeal water the same as it did before or the same as the metal parts that were opticoated as well. I dont think it nessasarly stripped the opticoat off, but its affected it in some way. I'll probably stick to clay bar now, but if you dont have your car opticoated and have these spots or if you are cool with reapplying it, the ironX does work pretty well, but smells like holy hell. Has anyone else had any experiece with the ironX affecting their opticoat or paint? |
used iron X on my opti coated STI, worked great. the thing it has over the claybar (other than much less labor) is that there is always the chance of scratching the paint while claying. i never paid attention to how the plastic beaded water, but all the painted surfaces of the car was the same after decon.

How did you wash after the IronX? Sometimes with a strong cleaner the coating will "act funny", and after the surfaces drys out after the wash its all good.

I'm not sure ONR has the cleaning power to deal with ironX. I would wash it with a strong dawn or citrus wash just to make sure all the residue is gone. Then during the next wash in say a week take a look.
See Opti coat will sometimes need a strong washing to remove residue that interfers with its physical properties such as beading. It seems to revive the coating. Just somethings to consider Cheers, GREG |

Cameron - let me know if you'd like me to take a look at it. More than willing to help. If you're not happy...neither am I. |
David I was actually going to call you today as well. What do you recommend for cleaning those spots off?

you are right about ironx having a powerful odor. Wowsers!
I did an ironx treatment right away when I bought the car. But that was before any wax or sealant or anything was applied. |

Used the Iron X this weekend and it worked great! The spots wiped right off. Wasn't expecting it to work as well as it did.
