works Filter
 

Hi guys,
I have been requested to put up a thread on the Works filter as the original thread has been removed or stopped for what ever reason.
I received the filter from @86_ZN6 in January, dropped it in and took the car for a 40km run to allow for the ECU to self adjust.
The difference in feel and sound is noticeable compared to the OEM filter.
2 months on, I finally opted to to a dyno run to confirm claims of the 8 to 10 hp gains.
I fitted the OEM filter back into the car and drove 50km to Autofix in Durban, where I did a first run, which claimed 115kw.
Dropped the Works filter in and did a second run, with no gains obtained, 115kw.
We then disconnected the battery waited 5 minutes and reconnected to allow the ECU to reset.
Ran the Dyno again, with a gain of 3 kw to 118kw.

The tests were done at the rear wheels, which effectively loses 25%, so effectively this would give a gain of just over 5hp, ( give or take)
What must also be noted is we dropped the filter in and did not give the ECU a run around the block to adjust itself, which could possibly have given further gains.

All in all these results are not bad for a DIF.

The test was done just after Midday at around 38 degrees on the coast.

I haven't checked, but I'm guessing the TRD air filter has less or similar results?

should've done a 4th run with stock filter back in, battery pulled for 5 min for ecu to reset again.

Since the reset was done between Works filter runs, the gains are negligible. It cannot be completely attributed to the filter alone.

So its pretty good filter?

So, there really isn't anything special about this filter. Kinda figured, but it's good to see some dyno sheets. I'm not sure why the other WORKS filter threads are consistently being locked. Lots of sketchy comments, and lots of skepticism in them.

Honestly, I don't see how this is any different than all of the other filters. K&N, Perrin, AVO, Cosworth, Apexi, AfE, etc... all seem to perform the same at HALF the cost.

I wonder if the power loss, that extends and deepens the torque dip, gives the impression there is more power when it comes back again?

More loss than gain on that dyno chart.

Finally! Now I can take this off my bucket list. :lol:

Please enlighten me on what you have done to gain further HP for under $75.

Well now that that has been put to rest somewhat, anyone want to recommend to me a nice dry and washable filter? Afe? Apexi? Zeta?

So it looks like this drop-in isn't magical after all....

I never would've expected this result...

My K&N purchase was just justified.
