UPS Truck vs. My new FR-S

Well after owning my baby for just under a month, a ups truck decided to plow into the side of me today. He told me he never saw my car... you know, its not bright fucking red or anything. I feel like I just lost my best friend :(

The damage (sorry if these pictures are huge):

Wow, what do you use to dress your tires?

oh, and sorry for your loss! I hope insurance makes it quick and painless! It all looks cosmetic, which is good!

roddy 03-04-2013 09:04 PM

Ouch, and a P1000 too. Those things are big. If it is any consolation, the driver will be reprimanded without mercy...may even lose his job. Sorry to see this happen to you.

daiheadjai 03-04-2013 09:05 PM

Target fixation. Maybe he was paying too much attention to your car.
That sucks.

Bullschmidt91 03-04-2013 09:05 PM

I manage a Waterway location and we use Armorall Professional High-Shine Tire gloss. It looks great for the first two days (I had washed it about twenty minutes prior to this accident) but it wears off pretty quickly.

And yeah Progressive has been nothing but helpful throughout this whole process so far.

Yeah thats what he told me, sounded like he was trying to make me feel bad for him but i have no sympathy whatsoever for him!

Neither will UPS. They take accidents very seriously.

Edit: Let us know how this works out for you.

Bullschmidt91 03-04-2013 09:18 PM

Will do, the car is getting torn down tomorrow and the insurance company is looking at it the day after. Im gonna try to run by tomorrow and check the carnage. Ill try to snap some pics while im there

Brzetto 03-04-2013 09:21 PM

He didn't see your bright red FRS? Bullshit, they sit up high in that truck so they see damn near everything.

marky 03-04-2013 09:22 PM

wow that sucks..sorry to see that happen... UPS better delivery you a new one..:slap:

front fender/door can be swapped out but the rear fender thats going to be a pain to fix.. maybe could of warp the roof/hood/trunk a bit too..

i always park away from others or far from trucks driving by..

so UPS is going to fix it? or get a new one:happyanim: sucks to drive a rental.. as long as no one got hurt its all good:thumbsup:

Zaku 03-04-2013 09:23 PM

...Wow dude, hope you get everything necessary to get that FRS back up and into good shape! Sorry it happened!

KGFRS86 03-04-2013 09:23 PM

One less UPS driver to worry about...

Bullschmidt91 03-04-2013 09:28 PM

Progressive is having me take care of it under my insurance so i can get i fixed/replaced immediately, because they said UPS is a PITA to deal with and it usually takes months to have them take care of it. I just want my car back asap and then when UPS gets their shit together ill get reimbursed for my deductable.

Best option in my opinion. I hope your wait isn't too long to get her back.

DBacon1052 03-04-2013 09:43 PM

Did anyone else think they were going to open this and see a race? lol

Sorry about the car though. That really sucks.

clayrush 03-04-2013 09:50 PM

Holey crap. I feel bad for both of you. Unless he is a long time driver he is toast.

White64Goat 03-04-2013 09:55 PM

From the looks of it, I'd say you were in his blind spot. Probably just ahead of the right side mirrors. Our cars sit low and this is one of the dangers. I try and stay out of the side areas when at all possible.

Touge Monster 03-04-2013 10:03 PM

Well if it makes you feel any better my ups driver at work is always joking around about crashing into one of our cars and yes they take accidents very seriously.

BlaineWasHere 03-04-2013 10:08 PM

The good news is I think UPS has pretty solid insurance. Not the worst thing to hit you.

So true. On my test drive I was almost run into by a lane changing big rig.

UPS self insures. They have pretty deep pockets.

reni 03-04-2013 10:16 PM

Yeah those UPS trucks have loads of torque off the line, but you'll take him for sure once you get to the twisties!

Oh wait...

Take the chance and do some mods while its in the garage! The body shop won't mind doing a couple of changes along the way since they're taking it apart anyways.

Sorry to see this though :/

RRnold 03-04-2013 10:20 PM

Damn more curse!?! :bs:

@Guff @Giccin @ichitaka05 @switchlanez @MannyO

switchlanez 03-04-2013 10:25 PM

Ouch, yo. That's gonna be hard to buff out.

milko002 03-04-2013 10:36 PM

Sorry about your car. I was wondering how to take off the side mirrors. Now I know.

Dude, why are you tagging me bro?

You know how painful for me to see these threads? I TRY to keep far, far, FAR away from these kind of threads, cuz it brings tears to my eyes.

You know, I've heard a rumor that, if you get Tada-san's autograph item in the car, that curse will be lifted. ;)

It's better insurance than I have.

Gen 03-04-2013 11:01 PM

I'd go for diminished value for that much damage on a brand new car. Seriously. Get it appraised, request the money from them, and send a letter of intent to sue in small claims on X date if you don't receive it.

+1 Get everything you can. Dumba** UPS driver should've been paying attention.

FRSGT86 03-04-2013 11:36 PM

Dam that sucks, sorry to see that. And this was a professional UPS driver? Maybe he should consider being a mailman instead and get a route where he only has to walk so he doesn't mess up anymore cars!

But seriously, glad you weren't hurt, and I'm sure the shop will take good care of your baby and fix it right for you.

Mandy 03-04-2013 11:41 PM

Sorry to see that. I have the same color, and that hurt me right in the feels. Hopefully everything gets sorted out for you.

Dezoris 03-05-2013 12:02 AM

FYI there is a reason why red cars typically have the highest insurance rates.
They are the hardest to see as red is the weakest color in the spectrum the visible spectrum.
Been down the road with 3 cars in the past. All have been hit, by people that said they could not see it. At least there is science to support it.

bestwheelbase 03-05-2013 12:03 AM

Glad you weren't hurt!

Fortunately UPS is probably pretty good about sorting these things out. Otherwise it would be a PR disaster.

Ahernandez0909 03-05-2013 12:46 AM

Hey bud, I'm in your same shoes. My car is in the shop right now from some lady rear ending me at 50 mph. Luckily the damage doesn't look bad but the frame was damaged so I'll be driving a rental until next month... Hope you're luckier than me. Tell your baby I said get well soon. ;)

boonFRS 03-05-2013 01:02 AM

If you're lucky and UPS replace the car for you, make sure they don't toss it over the fence.

Foobar 03-05-2013 08:38 AM

I'm trying to visualize how this happened - were you in the right lane, and he started merging in from the left lane and hit your rear quarter panel then kept on going all the way to the front? Or were you parked on the side of the road and he just sideswiped all the way through?
