Wheel and Tire combination?
 

So I am thinking about getting the Work XT-7 Emotion 17x8 +47 5x114.3, going to get a stickier tire, possibly star-specs.. I am putting on a pair of kw v3 coilovers with it. Most concerned about the increase in width throwing off the balance. Sound like something that has much more pros than cons over stock?

a 225 is a perfect width for x8's IMHO and it's a small difference. the main thing throwing off balance is people with staggered setups (225 fronts 255 rears), but even then people say it's not bad. your only problem is the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. you getting 5x114.3 to 5x100 spacers/adapters?

Actually thanks for pointing out the bolt patterns I hadn't been paying full attention. I will look into that and I was thinking about 215 or 225..

Ok now I am looking at Enkei Racing RP03 17x8.. Wheel calls for 235/40-17.. Probably going to go with 235/45-17 since the tire choices at that size are extremely better.. Anyone see any issues with this?

I did the same. I'm also running 17x8 with 225/45-17. Works perfectly.

One last question, I am trying to decide between Bridgestone Potenza and Michelin Pilot Super Sport.. Any input to sway me toward one or the other?

@HillCountryGuru Waiting for the UPS man to bring me 4 TSW Nurburgrings today! 17 x 8s, 35 offset so they will poke a bit. They weigh 17.9lbs. $182 each delivered from Amazon and they had 11 left at that price yesterday. Going with 22lb. Pilot Super Sports in 225/45 (#1 tire in it's class according to tirerack - my son just got some on his GTI and he loves them!). Total wheel weight = 39.95 vs. 40.1 stock. Tread width is 8.2" vs. stock 7.5". A little more grip / a little less weight / a little better looks (IMO) / 17" size is a little more affordable over 18" when you consider increase in wheel and tire prices + added weight. So, compromised on the wheel "look" a bit. Went with the mirror cut as my car is SWP. Lots of wheels/tires to choose from but, tried to shoot for the most bang for the buck. Anyway, don't think you'd be disappointed with Michelin PSS. Only downside is I've heard because they are stickier the avg MPG might go down a mile or two!

I too went with Michelin PSS 235/45, for the wheels I went with Enkei Racing RP03 17x8. They called for 235 so I went ahead with that over 225. Gets here in 2 days because they were only a state over..
