Warrior run
Doing a warrior run in April. Cant wait for it. 5k run with obsticles. Anyone done one? Experiences? Opinions? Recommendations?
|
I've done a few.
Wear long sleeve clothing... bring flip flops. Get ready to relatively "strip" down for a wash in cold as F water. Bring water shoes or shoes that have water ventilation. F socks. Don't bring a new pair of running shoes. I also really enjoyed it because I went out to "have fun" and not really be competitive. |
Do you get swords and duel with people?
|
I want to do one of those high intense warrior runs. Where people have to quit, throw up, get real dirty, but if you at least finish the run then you know you're somewhat a beast.
But its going to be a while me before I can get back into long endurance competitions. |
did one a while back, I am indian (tech support indian) even though I look mexican so I dressed up in a poncho and sombrero the whole race (million peso man)

Hahaha, the Million Peso Man! That's a good one @kanundrum.
And the race I was thinking of was Spartan Race. There's enough time for me from this point to the dates they'll be around my region for me to consider signing up based on my training. https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/i...JeXOMHZjusn41A |
Warrior run? Sounds interesting.

I've been prepping to do Spartan Race but you wanna at least try doing the other mud-runs first before you do the Spartan Race. The other ones are beginner ones and I would rank the Spartan Race as an intermediate level obstacle race. There's always the Gladiator Run, Warrior Race, Run-for-your-lives (although this one is more of a fun run) and in cali we have... Irvine Lake Mud run, Mud Factor and some others I can't think on top of my head. The Color runs are lame. I feel like those are all for people who want to walk 3 miles and get chalk thrown in their faces. Also OP, I forgot to mention... wear long socks. Without socks kinda sucks sorry. Lol |

So what can I say... I just want a challenge. And I'll have to ask for @MF_DEUCE's opinion on this too. |

@M-17, I'd suggest starting with normal small marathons such as 5k's then work up to 10k's and on and on. after you feel comfortable with running and competition, try other mud runs (depends which are in your area), then you can try spartan race/tough mudder. When it comes to obstacle races its solely based on three aspects of your training: diet, endurance, and full body training. When training, do so in the same environment or same manor as you would run in these events. For instance, if you know the event is being ran on hills then train on some hills, if its in a rural/forest type area then try and find one like it. It helps your mind and body prepare for it instead of being surprised when you first get there. I'm no expert at these things, Giccin gave me a lil more credit than i deserve. lol but thats pretty much all the advice i could give you. if you want more in depth stuff on actual training dont be afraid to ask. These are some of the runs and obstacle runs I've done: 10k Dana Point Turkey Trot 5k Angels Fun Run 5k Runners Cross 5k Run for Your Lives 5k Spartan "Sprint" Race 8+ miles Spartan "Super" Race oh yeah, enjoy the beers they give out after your run! :happy0180: Good luck, get dirty and get fit! :party0030: P.S. - for shoes, wear something you feel comfortable in and dont mind getting dirty. I suggest wearing socks, cause i ran one without some and regret it TREMENDOUSLY! bring extra clothes, a towel, and flip flops are a good suggestion. |

As for shoes, I always buy dedicated sneaks, shoes, boots for all certain occasions, so it won't bother me ruining new $100+ sneaks for these races. The only thing that's bugging me right now is the sock choice. I know when socks do get wet and start to rub with the sole of your foot and the sneaker it can cause blisters or sometimes lead to warts (i think). So far I'm seeing results in my search to go with wool socks or some say athletic socks still do the trick. Anyway that is probably my only concern at the moment. If I have more questions I'll drop it over in this thread for you or anyone else to give me some advise. Thanks again @MF_DEUCE. P.S. Free beers?!?!?!! :confused0068: :D |
