K&N Drop In Install Question

I looked and looked through the forum and couldn't find an answer to a simple question so if this has already been answered I would love a link!

I cant figure out which way the filter goes in! There is no information anywhere on what came with the filter or on their website. It fits 2 ways. My question is: Does the filter sit with the ridged side facing the front of the car or the flush side facing the front?

This is what I mean by ridged side:

Sorry if the way I am asking this is confusing.

THANKS!

Install the filter towards the bumper

Should I buy this thing? Advanced Auto Parts is having a $10 off deal and if you get it you also get a $10 gift card to their store. Worth it? Any gains?

Yes .....the k&n filter debate has been going on for years about over oiling etc but all of my cars run them and the fact that you can clean them and reuse them that ends up paying for itself over the long haul

The deeper section should face to the front bumper side and the flush is facing the engine bay. Hope it all clear now :).
I've been used the one time buy k&n filter for 12yrs on 4 of my current cars w/ 1 oil cleaning kit for household. Man, it works like a champs.

Are gains noticeable at all? Or sound?

Gains...probably not. Better throttle response and a slight bump in fuel economy are possible though.

It might just be in my head but I do feel like the throttle is a bit more responsive and there is a definite sound change. Engine sounds a bit deeper and cleaner!

By deeper you mean the side that protrudes more right? As opposed the side that is flush with the rubber seal? Thats how I have it and it seems to fit perfectly. Thanks!

ft86factory vendor has shown the dyno with 5hp gain over stock filter.
It's impossible to feel the few hp gain or 2% gain ! I use K&N filter b/c it work best for me. I don't have to buy filter every 4 months for my kind of driving.

IIRC, the rounded corner goes on the bottom and towards the pass side. That should be the only way it fits. It's been a while...hope that is right, and of some help.

whats the part number

Cameronghanson 03-04-2013 03:01 PM

Got this a few weeks ago. With overpipe and muffler delete it saw around 18hp increase which is pretty crazy it seems to me. As for the sound I can't tell a difference but I did delete the sound tube and the exhaust it's pretty loud. Throttle response definitely seems sharper and more "torquey"
