Stop Tech Sport Kit

Thinking about getting the full Stoptech Sport Kit for my FRS, but haven't heard any reviews or thoughts about them. Initially, I was just going to change my pads for now, upgrade the lines later, and eventually the rotors, but I found today that at least one of my rotors developed some scoring.

So the question is, what do people think about this kit? $550 (ish) for rotors, pads, and stainless steel brake lines all the way around seems like a good price. Do they work well? Any complaints? My intent is to continue using the car as a daily driver, but I want to take it to the track once every couple of months or so (as money allows). I also eventually intend to add some type of charger (leaning towards Innovate's twin screw, as long as they dont develop issue in the heat as I am in Florida) but that is in the future (likely at least a year away).

Advice?

Good question to ask, I was wondering this myself...

OEM rotors should be fine for your needs. I'd save the money and just go with pads, lines, and fluid.

Stop tech has vented or vented and cross drilled. If you are going to track it, you might look into the vented and cross drilled rotors. I think those may be a little more money.

You know, you can also replace your rotor under warranty. If you are not replacing with BBK or something, why not use the freebees with your warranty...

The guys that regularly do track events would recommend a solid or slotted rotor. My understanding is cross drilled rotors are more likely to crack.

The ones offered with the kit are slotted. I heard to stay away from cross drilled ones and was planning to follow that advise. I would just stick with the stock rotors if it weren't for the scoring that developed on one. I will check with Toyota (though I hate the dealership here)...but I can claim to the wife that I need to replace them for safety and upgrade at the same time.

I'm pretty sure you will have almost no chance of a dealership covering a wearable item, likes brakes, under warranty. Best to give them a call first to make sure...

So you are saying that Porsche rotors are poor quality? I have seen 5 cracked discs at the Porsche dealership where I used to work. All had been tracked.

Stock rotors are fine for the track. I beat the crap outta mine with hawk hp+ pads at Laguna seca lots of hard late braking 100+ into turn 2 held up fine. Cross drilled crack and have less surface area they were designed to help allow gas escape from hot pads but that's over kill with modern brake pads , slotted give more bite (if that's what you're looking for) and help clean the pad to prevent glazing but have less surface area heat up and wear pads quicker. If you aren't planning on tracking frequently and arent seeking any of the afformentioned benifits I wouldn't bother.

But I agree with you, it never hurts to check and confirm.

I know what you're saying, the dealer was referring to a special kind of warranty. They frequently use the exact misleading phrase you stated, "even the windshield wipers are covered..." which leads the customer to think anything bigger (like brakes) would be covered, when in reality windshield wipers are about the only wearable item covered. If for some reason your dealership will replace your rotors under warranty, then please take advantage of that, and spread the word, but just be sure ahead of time.

Pardon? How do you derive that statement from what I have said. I was refuting your statement that just because one has "quality" drilled rotors they are crack proof.

Any rotor will crack with enough repeated heat cycles.

And...lets get back on track. Rotors with scoring likely need replacing before going to the track. Reviews/comments on the Stoptech Sport Kit. K? Thx :)

I personally would just upgrade the pads, lines and fluid. I have never used stoptech products so i can't comment on their quality. I would say get some Ferodo DS2500 front and rear pads with some Motul fluid and SS lines. Those Ferodo pads are great DD pads that can handle a lot of abuse. I think this is a better use of your money.

polancd 03-04-2013 10:13 AM

How bad is the scoring? You can probably get them resurfaced
