North America to get Subaru version but not Toyota version?
 

I have read more than once that US will get the Subaru version but not the Toyota version. Is this based off any actual info or just people purely speculating?

And if true why would they decide to do this? I personally would want a Toyota not a Subaru version.

Did they mention if it's awd or rwd? I would find it strange if Suby is indeed the only version to be sold in the U.S. as a rwd model only. So it means they are willing to compete against the toyo version, a project which they both developed, in the rest of the world but not the U.S. Wierd...

I'd be blown away if Toyota didn't bring their version to north america. Their lineup here is as washing machine boring as the rest of the world and they sell more cars here than anywhere else so they'd be stupid not to bring it!

If both versions come over here, I may have a hard time deciding which to get. Lightweight, RWD corner carver vs AWD brute?

What makes you so sure that the subaru won't have awd besides the article on 7tune?

That's why I originally thought as well, but the Subaru rumour mill is strong with this one. And it makes sense, as well.

We will see.

Call me ignorant but if I can't have the Toyota badged version I think I'll end up going after the Genesis coupe... depending on how different the Suby version looks.

this is a huge controversy on nasioc... it may just be rwd, either way, it's gonna be interesting to see what happens... i would like to see how balanced this thing REALLY is via RWD

Any pics of the concept (or mule) shows the front axle close to the front of the car. Since on an AWD car you need the engine in front of the front axle, you'd need a different platform/layout. Not saying that they wouldn't be able to redesign it to allow for AWD, but as it stands now the mule/concept layout will only allow RWD.

Interesting... so in this latest spypic of the test mule the wheels would have to be back more for it to possibly be an AWD?

They could be just testing the chassis and suspension. Underneath that subaru shell might just be the toyota mechnicals. Subaru could test for awd later on... the impreza shell could allow awd tests in the future.

That article is almost 2 years old if I'm not mistaken.

It would be a huge mistake on Toyota's part to make a solid decision like that, 4 years before the production model is even shipped to be sold.

Plus, its not cited from any official toyota statement.
