Yeah, and if that is the case it is hopefully a 194 bulb based system (I am trying to get a set of BRZ lights to customize) may settle for GT86 lamps

What are your plans for the customization? Just to fit on a FRS or something else?

subatoy 12-25-2011 10:05 PM

wait... so are the headlights a direct swap?
can you swap just the headlights or do you
need to swap the bumper too?

I hate the smiley face on the BRZ's bumper but the headlights
are better. I hope I can swap bumper without the need for headlights!

I have a contact w/ a lighting co. (if this sit will allow sponsorship) he has shown interest in supplying HID kits and other replacement lights/parts

I was thinking a dark housing lamp and upgraded projector lenses, and changing the "halo" color w/ led based bulbs (not sure if you are familiar w/ the Lexus Sport Design ) but that "color"

headlamps "should" be a direct swap (shape wise)

Any idea how good the WRX STI HID lights are? Just trying to get an idea of how good Subaru's HIDs are.

Changing the "halo" color would be cool. Would love the green of the 300GT car like my avatar pic.

I'm not terribly familiar w/ the HID light in the STI (I am sure it is decent like most modern lighting systems)

Yeah, I am sure that color wouldn't be hard (have to wait and see ) :happyanim:

Cool. It will be my one rice item on my car. You will have to keep us updated when it comes to fruition.

:bellyroll:

Trying, it is looking like GT86 lamps may be done 1st at this rate, I have a more active contact there.

Their "led" strip is most likely smd leds all soldered together therefore not wanting to jack w/ them but will still do something to them.

Levi 12-26-2011 10:26 AM

For the BRZ there is no problem to change color. As the tube color is white like on new BMW's, I suppose it has a LED bulb. So you just need to change to LED for another color, yellow, red, orange, green, blue.

I am a perfectionist so I have alot of problems with any car. I like the headlights of the BRZ better, including the LED tube. The problem is that on both cars the taillight are the same are do not have a LED turbo like on the BRZ STI Concept, but have LED's, which goes well with front LED's of the 86. The BRZ in this case should have also gotten a LED tube on the taillights with a normal brake bulb deaper inside.

In fact I would also like LED blinkers front and back.

Levi 12-26-2011 10:31 AM

What you can do for the BRZ LED tube is fill it with a tiny LED stripe and blackeverything out. It looks awsome.

That is not a LED strip on the halo

Since there is so much discussion and requests to have the BRZ lights on the FRS,
Can any of our resident PhotoShop experts create a PS of an FRS with the BRZ lights lit up? Would be cool to see.
Here is the link to the movie that has the BRZ LEDs lit up.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ight=brz+movie

Thanks

Rear Tail Lights

Is it possible to change the rear lights to something similar to the Scion concept using the production panels.

Sure anything is possible if you own a plastics molding business/cnc machines/tool and dye markers and a great body shop

Zgrinch 12-30-2011 01:33 PM

Nice job Spaceywilly. Thank you.

I'm liking the looks of that FRS front.... Now if Scion would just offer the upgraded interior as an option, I'd be all set.

I just realized that in the bottom picture of the interior of the BRZ, that might be a premium model not the limited, because it has cloth seats and not leather\alcantara. It also does not have a Navigation system too. I was always under the impression that the navigation system was standard on both BRZ models? I guess not.

The GT86 picture on top is defiantly a High-Spec loaded GT86.

GT86 with Navigation on top and BRZ with Navigation on bottom.

BeachNative 01-03-2012 05:13 PM

I'm BRZ bound but really like the front bumper on the FR-S. :w00t:

Either way, my front bumper has to come "undrilled". I think that putting a front plate on any car, let alone this one (or check the RX-8 if you want ugly), really kills the look.

Slide 01-05-2012 10:56 PM

Bubble has been burst for the idea of changing out the the headlights for the BRZ ones :'(...

Quote from Subaru parts department for WRX Xeonnon head lights... 1200 each... :'(!!!

Caliban 01-06-2012 04:41 AM

it has to be interchangeable. its virtually the same car with different body panels, and bumpers.

StevenDavisPhoto 01-12-2012 01:33 AM

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I currently own a 2006 Scion TC and am very interested in the FRS. I prefer the body stylings of the FRS, and prefer the headlights on the BRZ, but I'm not gonna spend all that money to swap em out. The interior on the FRS also looks vastly superior to me. I hate shiny silver.

As a 29 year old now, I'm over doing any mods that don't enhance performance. Body mods ALWAYS end up getting hit or scraped up, and it lowers the value of the car. I had a 96 civic a long time ago and riced the crap outta that thing, and installed a lip kit on my TC, but even that got jacked up on parking spots, curbs, etc... :P

I'm gonna wait to get one until I know there's no major issues like when the 2003 Nissan 350Z came out with all the tire wear issues. Also, I never buy new anymore after buying my TC. Waste of money. It's worth at least 20% less as soon as you leave the dealer. I'd rather get a 2013 with a few thousand miles for 5k less.

I just wish the FRS came in that royal blue color like the BRZ.

The bumpers are interchangeable. The headlights size/fixings are exactly the same.

Since the BRZ/FR-S are pretty much the same car but different tuning on the springs, I think I'm gonna go with the BRZ because the front just looks a lot meaner, then i'll just tune the springs to be the same as FR-S.

good idea? will it work? :D

The dampers are Different too.

That being said, I'd Think ALOT of people would swap out for more aggressive spring/damper combos or Coilovers.

So getting used OEM Springs and Dampers from other owners should be easy. You'll have to wait a while though

dhpinoy 03-09-2012 04:43 PM

that means craigslist will be full of hachiroku parts :D lol!

Egyptn 04-08-2012 10:16 AM

Big ups Moto-P Thank you for doing all that - You've made my choice easy.

Cheers

Get the stang. It looks really really mean

dhpinoy 04-28-2012 09:25 AM

can someone please show me the interior difference between the FR-S and BRZ? Which one do you like better? FR-S/BRZ interior? What's with the different dash/AC controls, etc between the FR-S and GT86 and the BRZ?

It's all there already - just dig through the photo threads in the 2 subforums.

Most feel the BRZ limited's dual-zone climate controls look best. Feelings are split on whether the faux metal (BRZ) or the faux carbon fibre (FR-S) look better on the dash. Base HU in the FR-S is an abomination. IP: some prefer all-black of Subie, others the white tach of the FR-S.

I'm very surprised on startup the FRS has no gauge sweep vs the BRZ does. I would have thought it was just branding look and color difference but apparently not.

You don't like the fr-s black/white gauge? I feel like having the white makes it look cooler. Anyways, has anyone seen the interior in the dark?

At first I didn't, but after seeing it live I am liking it much better. And seeing the IP lit up at night - it's gorgeous, I much prefer it to the red lighting in the Subie.

i've been looking around but i can't seem to find either videos or photos of the FR-S with the lights on inside and outside :/

As you can see, the Gauges are white, and all the other illumination is Orange (reminds me of a nissan sorta). The white backlight is nice on the gauge..but in partial light situations, that white background on the tach looks a little strange

Furtive 06-08-2012 03:28 AM

ooo tach on frs on brz?? == win

But those cars i like them, Both of them are really nice.......

Nice compasion. I like both cars.
