Alu Wheel nuts..

Aluminum wheel nuts..

Besides the potential to cross thread these or the shop using an impact are there any other downsides to aluminum wheel nuts?

I am thinking for a DD I probably shouldn't bother with Alu, but would like to hear opinions.

Thanks

Dont ever let a shop use an impact gun on aluminum or titanium lug nuts. In the past i have always told the shop to only put the lugs on by hand..this also greatly reduces scratching and marring the lugs.
I only ever bought ones for the way they looked with aftermarket wheels.

our racing alu lug nuts are DESIGNED to be impacted...many are Cheap junk and they just put a high price tag...

Yeah this is the biggest deterrent to me buying alu. I wouldn't use one but I just know some idjit at the stealer would use an impact on them.

robispec,

Do you have a storefront or online shop?

Can you PM me a price?

I've used aluminum lugs (designed for racing, not looks) on my Miata for the last several years with no problems. I always use a cordless impact to remove and install them, but use a torque wrench for the final torque. Nobody touches them but me, and I'm always very careful with them.
