Heated throttle body?
 

Does the FA20 have coolant flowing through the throttle body?

I'm gonna guess "No", given that there are no other visible lines going to it other than the electrical lines and the intake.

Well there are two hoses that go to it on the bottom and I know a lot of older cars had heated throttles. The link is the cusco throttle body and you can see the hose connections. But then maybe they are for vacuum.

i'd be interested in an answer as well. my rsx had a heated throttle body for cold starts and a lot of guys were then deleting that route as it heated intake temps once warm

Doubt it. Those coolant passages were there for Idle Air Control Valves...which we don't have due to drive by throttle. If someone doesn't chime in by the evening, I'll take a look at the service manual when I get home.

I will chime in. Anyone who has installed a Full Blown turbo kit knows that the throttle body has coolant that flows through the two barbs on the passenger side of it. The Full Blown kit taps into each of those lines to run coolant to the watercooled turbo. I had my intake manifold off yesterday, and I cleaned up my turbo kit install by eliminating the brass hose barbs used to tee into those lines and instead of the coolant going to the throttle body, it now goes directly to my turbo. It looks like the factory setup warms up a very small area of the throttle body and seems almost useless anyways.

It's just to keep the throttle body from freezing up. When I lived in cali I just bypassed it. I doubt you'd gain any power from this since there really isn't any dedicated way for the heat to radiate into your intake charge. There are no tube/fins nor is it designed to heat up the intake air, just to keep the shaft from freezing up in the housing. It's just ambient heat. Might as well wrap your throttle body in a heat shield if you think bypassing the coolant will help, that engine thing is constantly radiating heat! That said, it won't hurt anything if you live in a warm place. Maybe we can use these lines for a water based oil cooler?

Thank you @King Tut. I agree that bypassing it probably won't make much difference but removing a heat source from the intake can't hurt either. Providing you are in a mild climate of course.

Bump, any data behind lower IAT's as a result of bypassing the coolant through the TB? Part numbers for a bypass coupler?

Would be nifty. Are the lines after the thermostat? Wouldn't want to slow down engine warmup times.

When I Install the "Revolution" 70mm throttle body, the instruction picture show two water pipes connect together without going to throttle body https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

All cars have this to stop freezing of the throttle body. Keep in mind this can happen WELL above freezing because of the venturi effect at the throttlebody causing the air to suddenly become colder.


It won't effect IAT's (because of the venturi effect cooling) but it can be dangerous if icing does occur (also, if you're boosted, it's MORE common and the temperature needed is higher, not colder!)
