Perrin Foam Panel Filter
 

I put one of these in soon after I picked up the car and it was difficult to tell if it gained any power because I was taking it easy.
What I am impressed with is the filtration. It's been summer here so there's dust around and being WA it's got a fair amount of iron oxide in it which sounds bad for the bores if it gets through.
I pulled the MAF sensor out recently to check it was clean and oil free, I had a look inside the inlet after the filter too.
The MAF sensor was spotless but I gave it a rinse in electrical cleaner while it was out. The inlet was also spotless and I even grabbed some white tissues to wipe the inside with, they were still white after over 4,000km.

Before I bought it I watched the video where they pour dirt over the various filters in the test machine and of course, the Perrin is the only one that stops all the dirt, even when they dump extra in. I was sceptical to say the least.

It seems it does filter extremely well and since my average fuel consumption is 10% below the official figures it must be flowing air ok too.

I would be interested if anyone has done a dyno comparison with this filter but for a drop in seems to offer first class filtration.

This may sound stupid but which way does the filter face? took mine out today to clean and it was spotless. went to reinstall n was like o @#!t.

install it towards the bumper

Still looking for that test video with the vacuum machine. They might have deleted it but I haven't given up yet.

Yes, install with the highest side out towards the front. That's the big area to filter the most air if that makes sense. I panicked with mine the first time too.

so the perrin logo faces the nose of the car and not the driver?

Perrin already did do a dyno... Your not going to find anyone going to dyno just a filter it self unless its a shop or vendor here promoting the product. Instead of asking other people do it why not do it your self. It costs 75-100 bucks to dyno 3 times at most places. The filter cost less than that which is unlikely anyone will be doing that. Not likely anyone is going to do that unless they have a hook up and IMO just a waste of time to see if it adds 3 ~ whp...

Perrin alreayd gave you the dyno's in there blog theres no reason to think they are skewing there numbers as they havent done that with any of their products.

I read somewhere that the K and N cleaner and possibly the oil is bad news for the foam filters. The supplier I bought mine off said it was ok to use it but when I checked with Perrin they said no way.
That might explain reports of some foam filters getting hard and breaking up while others go on indefinitely?

It's easy to get the right cleaner and oil. Perrin told me to go to any motorcycle shop because so many bikes use foam filters and they were right, good prices too.

I looked everywhere for that filtration test showing the Perrin stopping everything and the OEM and cotton type letting heaps through but it seems to have gone?

I recently cleaned and re-oiled my perrin filter since it was getting pretty black in the center. I picked up both cleaner and foam filter oil at a Motorcycle/ATV shop. The foam filter oil I bought has blue coloring to ensure you apply it evenly. Unfortunately Perrin's filter is mostly black except the white lettering. The Perrin logo is now blue :thumbup:.

When installing the perrin filter was it a tighter fit then the oem filter.
