My Asphalt Tri-Purpose Build Thread DD/Autox/HPDE

I bought my 2013 Asphalt Scion FR-S used with 2200 miles here in Houston, TX. Paid 23.2K

Funny story...I saw the car online and went to drive it, in the rain, mind you and loved it at first drive. BTW...I am coming from owning NA and NB miatas and I sold my 2011 GT500 to change directions with my daily driver. So, I took the test drive and then asked to crunch the numbers. When finalizing the sale I noticed the previous owners name on the title. I recognized the name...it was my tax accountant and friend! I called him right away and asked him why he sold the car. He said he drove it every weekend to church 30 miles away and that was it. He is a musician and he decided he needed a bigger car to transport his equipment. He traded the car in for an Acura wagon. I was then confident that I bought a well cared for car.

I bought this car to be a DD and track toy until I decide on something with a little more horse power. I have put 1K miles on the car so far and I really enjoy driving it. I have done one Autox event with the car stock and realized very quickly how bad the stock tires are but how much fun they provide. The car gets sideways but it was always easy to get it back.

I have already scheduled an appointment to fix the cricket noise, the condensation in the right rear tail light and a rattle in the dash. My drivers window also squeals violently when wet. I guess these are the growing pains of a new car model.

I have started the mods...

1. Magnaflow exhaust...deeper sound, better look and no drone. It may not be the best on performance but I love the sound and the price was unbeatable.

2. TRD air filter...it was hard to figure out which way it installs because there is not an indicator of airflow direction on the filter.

3. 5 Axis Spoiler...once again, I just love the look. It was pretty easy to install but the red tape broke towards the end as I pulled it off. It is firmly secured but I was not happy about the small section that has no tape support.

4. Mud guards...just the rears and easy install. Looks nice and factory...they should have installed them at the factory.

5. Dealer installed window tint

6. 17X8 Enkei RPF1 +35 with 245-40-17 Hankook RS-3

7. Whiteline Front Sway

8. RCE Yellow Springs

9. Hotchkis Rear Sway

10. Whiteline positive shift Bushing

11. DBA Rotors with Ferodo DS2500 Pads

12. Goodridge Stainless lines with Ate Blue Fluid

I got my second track day in yesterday! The car keeps getting better and so is the driver!

Two issues to report...

1. This car eats brake pads for breakfast! Two track days and one autox and my new Ferodo pads are toast. I guess I need something harder! I think I will check out what carbotech has to offer...they worked well on my miata.

2. I had trouble finding 4th gear from 5th a few times. It bit me in the butt when I found 2nd instead of 4th causing me to let off the throttle and consequently spin in turn one of TWS. That was a pucker moment...I will post a vid soon!

Here is one of my fast laps...I was consistently running 2:05-7 even with a passenger. I bet 2:00 is not far away. I know I can do better with my line, braking and especially shifting!

Interesting. Did you use the Ferodo ds2500 on the street too? That's $80/day for pads. bleh.

For those trying to decide between CS and STX, it sure seems like a BBK + ducts would pay for itself pretty quickly. Higher torque and cooling capacity would allow you to get the same brake force with harder compounds and lower temps.

Do you think it's a better choice to buy pads in bulk or upgrade the hardware upfront?

Switched to Hawk Hp+ pads for the weekend and they worked great! Only $98 for the set.
