Webster Starbucks sounds good to me, say 6:30? Should give us some time to grab some coffee and head out (20mins to CV I think)

lol. Likewise. She says she should get black wheels on her car first before mine. No argument there. I could always get 'loaner wheels' lol

Nice, got approval from the girlfriend as well, but she doesn't want to tag along.. she prefers sleeping in on Saturdays like most sane people.

Why get up on Saturday and Sunday morning at 6am to drive around? Because racecar!

Also, this...

Careful. Then she might throw the curveball. "You never get up this early to clean the house." :bonk:

@PMok or any gopro user - have you tried attaching the gopro onto the tow hook? I'm heading out to BestBuy to see if an attachment can be manipulated. Thinking a front and rear tow hook attachement. Let's see those angles.

Funny you mentioned that, I've been working on an adapter that allows me to mouth my gopro onto the tow hook (front or back). I've got my aluminum block but haven't been able to sneak into the machine shop in a while.

I haven't tried doing that yet, but have seen a product out there that is a tow hook with a go-pro mount on the end. Don't remember if it was for the BRZ, or where I saw it, but yeah it exists.

I haven't used my GoPro with the BRZ yet. I like the angle to be low to the ground so you get that sense of speed, there was a perfect cutout in my WRX front bumper for it, or I just mounted it to the front of the hood. Not sure where it'll go on the BRZ, though.

The post you quoted is for us folks coming from Alameda (more than welcome to join us). Here's is the actual plan, which I guess got buried from all the chat posts.

yeah I haven't attached it to the towhook either, but I was looking at the ptuning hook mount. It's pricey with all the accessories you would need, if you want to do license plate/tow hook/camera mount. I might just use some crazy amount of duct tape to attach the gopro to the front for that down low angle haha.

Sweet! Let us know how it goes.
Thinking something to sit and bolt in the eyelet with a table/flat top for the mount. But you the man so ingenuity buddy.

Kamakanani0 03-15-2013 05:28 PM

Actually how many of us are going? Like 10 cars?

Yep, pretty much as you described. Just need to machine the holes to mount the gopro case (pretty tricky).

I counted 10 confirmed. Can we get a final count so we aren't waiting around in CV for people who aren't coming? :burnrubber:

Is there any dedicated thread going on for this meet which you're referring to?

Clipdat 03-15-2013 07:16 PM

Doesn't look like there is a dedicated thread yet, just discussion here and a mention in the meetup db thread.

@PMok- Make a dedicated thread!

As P mentioned, we'll plan on rolling out at 7:30 unless somebody is running late, and if so, post here.

We've been planning morning drives on this thread for a while (think we've done 3-4 now) but they've all been small groups (3-4 people), I guess this one blew up and got pretty big for some reason (no fri night parties/clubbing? lol). Up to you Pmok.

If you just need to mount a gopro or pov camera without using our racing tow hook. we recently release the camera mount kit that mounts to the factory tow bolt location. There's a kit for the front and one for the rear.

Are those RAM mounts? Those are exactly what I'm using, except I just made a threaded I-bolt mount to the tow hook instead. Wished I knew about this before I went through all the trouble, lol

yeah, if I hadn't already bought a front license plate mount I'd probably have gone with yours for the modularity. However, do you really need separate parts for front and rear? Ideally I'd just buy one part that would work with either...

If you are buying it just for use as a camera mount then get the rear kit which will also fit the front. The rear tow bolt is longer than the front so if you one day decide to mount our license plate relocation or tow hook, it will stick farther than most people would like. But for a camera mount its perfectly fine.

I like the modular too, in need of placing the front plate, transforms to camera mount too. I hope it's an Autobot haha j/k.

You wouldn't happen to have a bolt for an 09 135 BMW? Pick up that bolt too if you got it.

We are currently machining the bolts for the bmw e36, e46, e90/e92, the bolt for the e90/e92 should be the same as your 135. Once we get the tow bolts back from plating we will confirm fitment on the 135 as well.

Thank you. Will keep an eye out for the 135 bolt.

Is it too early to already be thinking about the next weekend's DRIVE? :D

By the way to come back to a previous idea, the new tunnel that replaces Devil's Slide on Hwy 1 will open next week. So I think that means this weekend is the last opportunity to drive the Devil's Slide. Just an idea...

http://www.mercurynews.com/traffic/c...y-1-open-march

then after the tunnels open, we should plan another drive through them.

My schedule looks sketchy this Sat...

BigFatFlip 03-19-2013 12:36 AM

Damn, I could possibly do Saturday, but definitely can't do Sunday, gonna be heading to Seattle for work (and possibly stopping by AVO, depending on Paul's schedule).

Decided to do Patterson pass last night on a whim, really glad we didn't do it in the fog, I forgot how narrow it was. Great road, with lots of elevation changes, but not much to see in the dark, killer view looking down at the Livermore lights though.

Clipdat 03-19-2013 12:48 AM

What about Calaveras Rd? I know nothing about it other than how it looks on the map.

I used to do Calaveras Rd quite a bit in my MR2 when I lived in Fremont... but that road kind of scares me. Although there are some great curves and scenery, the road is really narrow (for 2-way traffic) in some places and there are lots of blind corners. So you can't push the car hard without being considered reckless... There are better roads in the East Bay, like Redwood/Pinehurst, Palomares, Mines.

Clipdat 03-19-2013 01:19 AM

Wow, yeah I just looked on Google maps, that is super narrow! No center lane line?? Jesus.

BigFatFlip 03-19-2013 01:38 AM

yeah, same way with Patterson pass, Tesla Rd. is much wider.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of fun to be had if you take it easy and are mindful of the possibility of oncoming traffic in each blind corner. Another really cool road nearby is Felter to Sierra Rd. There is a part that is super scary because it's narrow one lane road with steep cliff dropoffs on one side. But the view up there is amazing as you come down into San Jose.

Yeah I used to take Calaveras (doesn't it mean something evil in Spanish btw, I remember my GF telling me that when I mentioned that I was taking it home) home everyday when I lived in the East Bay to avoid the 680 traffic. Luckily at that time there weren't many people going the other way, so it minimized the amount of close calls on blind corners. But still, I never found myself pushing too hard cause its basically a one lane road where every corner is a blind corner, and being a few feet away from most certain death down the side of a mountain is scary as shit! Can't imagine a caravan of 8 cars trying to drive that road!

As far as this weekend's drive... I'm down for Saturday or Sunday morning. Would prefer Saturday though.

Clipdat 03-19-2013 02:10 PM

Awesome shots @PMok!

I am probably up for another drive this Sat...

Edit: Or Friday, since I took the entire day off work! :D
