Nice. Junction is a good stop. Thinking the same, back on Mines may be quicker than thru 5. So, meet on 580 seems more reasonable.

 cross-bow and red-neck Disneyland. 2nd floor is the best. If that's Disneyland, Cabelas is DisneyWorld haha. Only been to the Reno location unfortunately.

I agree, 84 is kind of blah, I'd rather just get to Mines and start DRIVING! let's meet say at the N. Livermore Ave exit off 580, there is a Jack-in-the-Box and gas station on the right as you come off the freeway. Or if you want coffee, we can meet at Starbucks.

N. Livermore sounds good. My vote would be Starbucks since my tummy will need some fuel too, I think there's one down the road.

MyRx 02-28-2013 10:24 PM

Starbucks on N Livermore, yes.

PMok 03-01-2013 04:51 PM

OK I'm gonna add this to the Meets thread so here is the formal info.

Meet at 6AM-630AM. Roll out @ approx. 645AM.

Starbucks Coffee
2050 Portola Avenue
Livermore, CA 94550

We will have completed the driving route by 9AM, probably returning to Livermore (though there is the option of continuing on up to Mt. Hamilton).

That's beyond addiction. They outta change their name to king of the hill.

Great drive today. No one left behind. Luckily we got out before the masses of bicyclists showed up. I'm afraid to wash the car now and reveal what's underneath the bugs. On well never could afford a show car anyways :)

BigFatFlip 03-02-2013 07:49 PM

Thanks to @PMok and @MyRx for a fun morning. I didn't make a very good "chase" camera man since I could hardly keep up lol! Let's do this again, maybe this be able to keep going to Mt. Ham (maybe with enough heads up, @vubaru would be able to join us). Here's some of my crappy phone pics, I'm sure you guys have way better ones

posted up some of my pics from today's drive, here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30213

haven't watched all my gopro video footage yet, but it's kind of meh, not as much excitement without someone in front of me to chase. Next time I'll point my camera backwards for a different perspective.

Yeah, just took a look at my gopro footage last night and unfortunately, thanks to all my fidgeting, I got a pretty gnarly angle full of glare from my side window, not much you could see clearly other than during the couple of mins I had my windows down.

SC David 03-04-2013 05:17 PM

I did the same Mines Road route from Livermore up to Mt Hamilton in the early morning yesterday, leading some BMW guys. They were keeping up without issue until it turned into San Antonio Rd going up the east side of Mt Ham, at which point they were out of my rearview after a switchback or two, and then I'd have to wait to make sure we were all together. This car is REALLY in it's element doing that hillclimb. Can't wait to do it again. I'll have to keep an eye on this thread.

Nice pics, nice rides. Something pleasantly nostalgic about older BMWs, I like it.

You seem knowledgeable of the area, pls do come out. The three of us pretty much stayed on the same page - great driving with folks who enjoy driving.

Ok well I got about 10 minutes that *might* be worth watching. I LOL'd at the big fat COW just hanging out on the road at 4:00...

I totally want to pick up an E30 or E28 sometime, now that I've ditched my E34. GF has a E21 320i in the garage which is a pretty fun car, but the E30 325is with an LSD really hit the sweet spot of power/handling balance for me.

Anyway, I'd be totally down to do the same run with you guys.

Nice vid. Worth watching :).

After learning a thing or two from the Edge folks, I better put them to practice before I forget. I may drive Redwood/PH again sometime this week. Sat/Sun is out of the question for me. I'll post if I can predict it.

Damn that's a lot of BMWs! They are sweet cars.

I've been thinking about a San Pablo Dam Road or Wildcat Canyon route. Should be nice this weekend!

bleh, I didn't expect the rain tonight... maybe the roads will still be slick over the weekend... but I'm down for a drive Sunday!

Another idea... last weekend I drove the scenic Hwy 1 up from Half Moon Bay into the City, and discovered one of the most beautiful parts of the drive... is about to disappear. Devils Slide is being bypassed by a pair of tunnels that is about to open maybe by the end of this month.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil's_Slide_(California)

One idea if the weather is good, might be to cruise the Devil's Slide one last time before the old route is closed for good.

[ame]http://youtu.be/s_jgHODFiFk[/ame]

After that, cruising the new tunnels when they open might be fun... for different reasons. ;)

Need to go for a drive with you guys soon these speed limits & lack of good roads in Hawaii are driving me insane :mad0259: not to mention missing my baby.

Sunday morning might work for me, depending on what time you guys decide (remember, we lose an hour from day light savings on Sunday)

Where in Hawaii are ya? If you are in the main island, the Kama hwy is a nice drive, like a hwy 1 loop.

I was staying on Oahu in nuuanu actually at the gate as I type this. Kam hyw is cool just cant rip around like back on the mainland plus not quite as much fun in my dodge Dakota rental lol. Guess I will appreciate the frs that much more when I get home.

MyRx 03-08-2013 12:00 PM

I'm in for a drive to Devil's Slide. Put a drive together on PCH, eat at Taco Bell on the beach :)

@PMok, Skyline/PH has patches of wet road, PH has lots more. Can only hope enuf sun comes out to dry up PH but then again it's PH, be conservative pls. Was there at crack of down to drop off stuff at CV, headed up to Redwood instead.

Yeah some parts of Pinehurst get no sun at all... I always drive conservative when it's wet. But I hope it's warm the next two days. :)

PMok 03-08-2013 10:24 PM

so.... we got a few options for this Sunday's drive:

★ Redwood/Pinehurst/Grizzly/Skyline/Wildcat/San Pablo (East Bay)
★ Devil's Slide/Hwy1 (Peninsula/SF)
★ Caravan to Marina to cheer on fellow 86ers at autoX (South Bay/Monterey)

thoughts? :23:

SC David 03-08-2013 11:51 PM

I'm down for some Peninsula driving on Sunday morning. I've got a route in mind, with some really great tight backroads the the 86 would shine on. Basically 1 south to Stage Rd into Pescadero, up Pescadero Creek Rd to Alpine Rd and down Page Mill to 280.

Anyone down to try that? We could meet up in Daly City or Pacifica for some quick coffee, then head down 1 and drive Devils Slide before it closes forever, and get on with the route. It would be about 2 hrs from Pacifica to Page Mill & 280.

BigFatFlip 03-09-2013 12:39 AM

Redwood rd would be best for me, since I might be in an "on-call" situation that morning and may have to leave mid-drive. Devil's slide would be second choice but Marina might be too far for me. What time were you guys thinking?

SC David 03-09-2013 12:46 AM

I can do East Bay too if that's better for everyone else. I'm gonna want to do a Peninsula drive sometime in the next month or so regardless :).

Yeah, that sounds like a nice drive, just so happens that this weekend is extra crappy with work for me, but don't let me spoil your fun, lol. I would want to do that drive some time too. I find myself heading south at halfmoon bay most of the time, I forget that there are some sweet roads up north too ;)

Fer sher. The Northbay has some really excellent drives too. We've got it made in the Bay Area.

MyRx 03-09-2013 01:33 AM

How many backroads are there in a 100 mile radius (+/- if you know) worth taking? What do you think of picking 12 (or more) and make a scheduled driving schedule? Would be on top of the sporadic drives.

Touge Monster 03-09-2013 02:01 AM

:mad0259:gotta work a half shift Sunday morning for a quarterly new owners event. If anyone bought an frs from sf Toyota/scion in the last few months maybe ill see ya there. I should be free next Sunday if you guys are planning anything:thumbup:

So many great ideas... there are lots of great roads here, I can think of at least 10 off the top of my head. Some inspiration here:
http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/ca_bay.html
http://www.alpinespeedstars.com/map/

Here's what I'm thinking for this weekend.

Saturday. I told myself I am gonna go to the range and re-sight in my rifle. So I will be at the Chabot Gun Club around 10AM and afterwards (around 12PM) maybe cruise a little at Pinehurst and Skyline. Anyone's welcome to join me. I have to go into work at some point though so around 1-2PM I will head to the Peninsula. After a little work I may be up for a drive around the 280 area... 84 and/or Skyline. It's going to be kind of playing it by ear though so if you are interested in joining me, PM me and we'll exchange phone #s. I'll text whoever's interested about where I am and where I am headed next.

Sunday. Yeah Marina's too far to go just to spectate. I'd rather DRIVE! Sounds like Devil's Slide is too inconvenient for some of us this particular weekend, we can do it one of the next few weekends. So let's keep it East Bay this weekend. Meet at say Orinda/24 around 930AM and drive San Pablo Dam Rd/Wildcat? I haven't driven this area in years so if someone knows a good spot to meet up please throw it out. Then maybe take Grizzly Peak/Redwood Rd back down home.

I'm open to adjustments/suggestions too. :)

SC David 03-09-2013 03:07 AM

Nice, I'm in for Sunday morning East Bay drive.
