Don't worry I did a solo drive. I was dumb I was thinking everyone left for Vegas this weekend then I looked back and it suppose to be next weekend. It's more of my own thing if any. I enjoy driving early because its the fresh breeze and cool weather vs the hot weather we just had today! The forest in Big Basin as you keep going straight leads to a very narrow road.. I don't think a convoy of GT86 should go drive in there. It would only block traffic. I thought the roads we taken were narrow but that is a one lane road majority of the time. I got to visit the Basin Park and that was cool. I've never been there. Apparently this morning a lot of people were there for a marathon run or something like that. I saw a hollow tree I wanted to fit my car in there and take a picture! However, park rangers were dazzling at the car along with other people. I kept driving more North to Santa Cruz it became humid. I turned around and drove South 17 to 280 S. Had an Asphalt FRS along the way down from Santa Cruz which was cool. Overall, I had myself a good drive. Vista point was looking cool. I had some type of BMW trailing me for a good while and left our exhaust good byes.

Excellent stuff Anthony. Just a great reminder that there are great roads out there to be enjoyed by anyone, not just in a group but also solo can be fun and a relaxing experience. And I'd encourage others to do the same, and share photos/writeups as they go out and explore. That too is part of what I think 86DRIVE represents, not just bunch of us cruising in parade formation or gathering in parking lots haha.

Yeah I've driven that section of 236 to Big Basin and even done it in a large group of 20+ MR2s... it can be done but I did not enjoy it. Road is too tight and way more traffic than I care to encounter. Big minivans and SUVs coming the other way on a one-car wide road in a dark shaded forest is scary. Beautiful scenery though like you said.

Driving solo is fun and all (not a fan of gigantic cruising groups either), but with a car or two to tag along we can feel a little more at ease. Plus it'd be nice to finally meet some of yall. :D

Was on my way to the valley over the weekend and saw that it was particularly windy that day and decided to take the scenic route up Patterson Pass rd. The view of all those wind turbines spinning was awesome (it was so windy I almost lost the A's hat!).

I loved driving highway 9 to big basin or vista point in my IS. I have yet to try it in the BRZ yet though. Last time I went, there was some road work which ruined the fun

How have I missed this place which is pretty much in my back yard? This is easily a location for our next saturday AM drive after everyone gets back from Vegas.

Check out the Speedhunters article here.

Lets get a drive together to go check out the museum and then rock some of the wonderful roads in the Santa Cruz mountains!

It would seem that they do a cars and coffee event every 2nd Saturday of the month and regular morning tours every Saturday. Who is down?

I'd be down for this. We've been talking about a Santa Cruz area drive for a while, let's plan something after Vegas! :w00t:
